Valid New Jersey English as a Second Language Teacher Certificate

Knowledgeable about the student identification process for language services including Home Language Survey review, Student Registration form review, and a review of students’ individual records and administering the district-approved screening assessment

Ability to recommend entry and exit of students from the ESL program based on multiple criteria established by the district and the New Jersey Department of Education

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with families of English learners and school personnel

Knowledge of state regulations as regarding ESL outlined New Jersey Administrative Code

Proven ability to prepare and deliver lessons for students; demonstrate best practices for teaching language learners

Ability to develop strong relationships with families in order to provide service coordination, support, and training to assist families in meeting the needs of their ESL children, and enhancing parents’ role as the primary influence on their child's education and development
