ANTICIPATED:  ELA and Current Events Teacher, ABIS Middle School, Grades 5-8
Tenure Track, Full Time Position

Manville School District’s Middle School (ABIS) is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to fill the unique role of ELA and Current Events Teacher for grades 5 through 8. This position offers the opportunity to integrate language arts instruction with current events and real-world issues, engaging students in critical thinking, communication skills, and civic awareness. We are looking for a passionate teacher who can inspire students to become informed, empathetic global citizens through a combination of literary analysis, writing, and discussions on contemporary topics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive ELA curriculum that integrates current events, news articles, and multimedia resources to enhance literacy skills and foster critical thinking.

  • Design engaging lessons and activities that encourage students to analyze literature, discuss current events, and express their opinions through speaking and writing.

  • Facilitate classroom discussions on a wide range of topics, encouraging students to explore diverse perspectives, develop empathy, and engage in respectful debate.

  • Incorporate technology tools, online resources, and interactive media to enhance learning experiences and promote digital literacy skills.

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to participate actively in their learning.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, share resources, and integrate interdisciplinary connections between ELA and other subjects.

  • Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback and opportunities for reflection and growth.

  • Cultivate relationships with families and the community to support student learning and promote a deeper understanding of current events and social issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Social Studies, or related field.

  • Valid teaching certification/license for middle school ELA or a combination of ELA and Social Studies.

  • Experience teaching ELA or related subjects to middle school students, with a strong background in literacy instruction and curriculum development.

  • Knowledge of current events, social issues, and media literacy, with the ability to integrate these topics into ELA instruction.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students in meaningful discussions and foster a positive classroom culture.

  • Creativity, flexibility, and adaptability in designing dynamic lessons and activities that meet the diverse needs of middle school learners.

  • Proficiency in technology tools and digital resources for teaching and learning.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration with colleagues in the field of ELA and current events education.
     
  • Bilingual candidates highly desired.
