Job Title: Technology Coordinator

Reports To: Superintendent/Principal

Terms of Employment: To begin on or about 7/1/2024. Full time, 12 Months, Benefits, Salary $55,000 - $90,000/yr. commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Job Goal: To assume leadership responsibility for the direction, coordination, development, and implementation of the district’s current and future technology plan.

Nature and Scope of Job: Somerdale School District consists of one school building which serves approximately 450 students in Grades PK-8. Somerdale is seeking a Technology Coordinator that will be responsible for overseeing the area of technology through planning, purchasing, installing, and maintaining district software, hardware, etc. This is a hands-on position with responsibilities that range from running cable wire to implementing system wide technology solutions to developing strategic, long-range plans supported by related budget analysis. Experience working in the field of education is preferred for the purpose of understanding the importance of technology in supporting educational outcomes, familiarity with where technology funding sources can be accessed, and an appreciation for how collaboration and creativity can support organizational success.


Bachelor’s degree in information systems/technology, Computer Science, or related degree preferred

At least three years experience in network operations and support experience within the educational setting

Cisco Certification preferred

Experience with:

  • Installing, programming, and maintaining Fortinet Networking Equipment and Firewalls such as routers and switches
  • Meraki Access Points
  • Installing and maintaining Windows Servers including Server 2012R2, 2019, 2022, DHCP, DNS
  • Installing, maintaining, and administering Microsoft/Windows group policies and active directories
  • Installing and supporting Windows 10 and Windows 11
  • Monitoring and maintaining network security through web filters, network access control, and spam filters
  • Network distribution and wiring
  • Network security practices IDS, IPS, and client/server security packages such as Forticlient and Sentinel One
  • Voice management systems - VoIP, ShoreTel, Mitel
  • Server virtualization – VMWare ESXi, vSphere, VDI
  • SAN and NAS Systems
  • Maintain PC LAN and Fiber WAN
  • Set up and management of VPN, IPSEC and SSL
  • eRate Consulting

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of student and staff devices – “chromebook management”
  • Set up new user accounts, profiles, passwords, and active directory permissions
  • Provide technical support and/or repairs for various hardware, software applications, and technical equipment operation used by students and staff
  • Install software upgrades, application upgrades, and perform routine maintenance
  • Install and maintain network and internet security
  • Anticipate communication/networking problems and implement preventative measures to optimize network availability while ensuring timely user notification regarding impact on systems
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve application, desktop, hardware, software and network infrastructure faults
  • Run and documents backup of networked systems
  • Cooperate with administration and front office staff to manage district’s student information system - OnCourse
  • Manage district website and email management system
  • Run cable when necessary
  • Assist staff and outside presenters with presentation set-up when needed
  • Prepare technology needs for monthly Board of Education Meeting – 6:30 pm start
  • Assist with computerized testing – NJSLA, NWEA MAP, ACCESS, WIDA
  • Maintain inventory of district technology hardware/software
  • Coordinate license agreements for software products
  • Coordinate with vendors for warranty support and equipment replacement when needed
  • Evaluate district technology plan and educational programs then recommends changes if appropriate
  • Develop district’s long-range plans for technology and conducts related budget analysis
  • Collaborate with vendors to address software/hardware related issues, implement updates, troubleshoot problems, identify solutions, and collect quotes as needed
  • Prepare budget recommendations for acquisition and maintenance of district technologies
  • Prepare purchase orders and provide for the distribution of materials and supplies
  • Participate in the development of the technology budget and the requisitioning of appropriate technology materials to sustain and advance the department
  • Provide input in the development of district policies related to the use of IT, computer software, social media platforms, and online services

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Superintendent/Principal
