Description

Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of a Speech Language Therapist. This position is responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Certificate as Speech Language Specialist. ASHA certification preffered.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Speech Language Specialist identifies and treats students with speech, language and/or hearing difficulties. The Speech Language Specialist works with educators, Child Study Team members, other professionals, and parents to provide remediation in individual or small group sessions.

  1. Meet with parents to discuss and obtain permission for evaluation and classification.
  1. Evaluate and classify as Eligible for Speech Language Services (ESLS) those students that present mild to moderate articulation disorders that are non-developmental in nature, as well as language delayed, voice or fluency disorders.
  1. Parental contact will be maintained to develop Individual Educational Plan (IEP), report on progress, resolve problems and to assist with home activities regarding speech and language development.
  1. Coordinate with teaching staff to arrange a schedule for speech sessions.
  1. Remediate the speech and language problems of classified children. Provide carryover assignments for home use as needed.
  1. Provide on-going evaluation of progress for each individual student.
  1. Provide necessary information to case managers of children.
  1. Develop appropriate materials, games, and activities for speech sessions.
  1. Provide group language lessons in the classroom for preschool handicapped students.
  1. Provide information and resources for parents and/or staff members regarding the speech program.
  1. Attend Child Study Team meetings with applicable.
  1. Assist in curriculum development and in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials, as needed.
  1. Conduct department meetings to coordinate services, update forms and share information, as needed.
  1. Develop and update policy and guidelines for admission to and dismissal from the speech program.
  1. Compile statutes for state funding and reports.
  1. Strive to maintain awareness for current developments, interpretations of subject matter, content, and methodology of teaching in subject areas assigned.
  1. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  1. Maintain ethical and professional behavior in working with school personnel and other agencies.
  1. Perform duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as assigned by his/her supervisor, in accordance with N.J. State Law, State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, local Board policies and contractual obligations.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services.
