COOPERATIVE EDUCATIONAL COORDINATOR (HAZARDOUS OCCUPATIONS)
 
 

Brief Description:
The Board of Education of Middlesex County Magnet Schools is currently accepting applications for Teacher of Cooperative Educational Coordinator ( Hazardous Occupations) for the 2023-2024 school year.
This will be a ten-month tenure track position with other duties as assigned. 
 
REPORTS TO:
Director of Career and Technical Education or designee
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid New Jersey Cooperative Vocational Education certificate
  • Minimum 4 years of satisfactory teaching experience in vocational education
  • Familiar with curriculum development, various teaching methods, labor law and vocational guidance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  •  Alternatives to the above qualifications may be substituted as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education
  • Required criminal history background check and eligibility to work in the United States
  • All applicants must meet NJ Residency requirements as per “New Jersey First Act”, N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70)
  • Valid New Jersey Cooperative Education Coordinator Certificate with a Hazardous Endorsement
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CE Coordinator will have the responsibility for the administration and operation of the cooperative education program. The Cooperative Education program shall include but not be limited to the regular cooperative education program, the special needs cooperative education program and such other programs, which may contain a cooperative vocation education/job placement component.
1. Interviewing and selecting of prospective students.
2. Surveying local employment opportunities.
3. Arranging interviews for trainee applicants.
4. Determining student job placement.
5. Assisting students to obtain employment certificates and social security cards.
6. Providing guidance for students in educational, social, occupational, and personal areas of life.
7. Visit students working at training station by-monthly to:
a. Observe the type of work being done.
b. Arrange with employer for students’ rotation through a wide range of activities to achieve the training objectives.
c. Determine how the CVE related class could effectively supplement the employment training.
d. Adjust any problems arising between the student and the employer.
8. Inspect the prospective training stations for safety violations.
9. Prepare appropriate forms required by the State department of education prior to student placement.
a. Training establishment report.
b. Training Agreement.
10. Prepare yearly reports to the State Department of Education.
11. Prepare monthly reports for the school administration.
12. Assist the guidance department in carrying out follow-up studies of graduates and making reports of these studies available to the administration.
13. Collect and organize material for related class instruction.
14. Schedule CVE related class with the approval of the principal.
15. Collect and evaluate employers’ reports of students’ progress.
16. Establish a continuing program of community relations and program recognition.
17. Maintain rapport with the school administration and faculty.
18. Request attendance for state and local CVE meeting approved by the principal and the Superintendent.
19. Observe students’ marking level progress, and take appropriate action in the event of students’ deficiency.
20. Maintain discipline among CVE students.
a. Disciplinary action may be taken in conjunction with the principal’s approval if:
1. Excessively tardy to school.
2. Excessively absent from school.
3. Fails to maintain an acceptable academic level while in the CVE program.
4. Fails to complete required work in academic, related, or shop classes.
5. Violates school policy.
21. Maintain students’ documents according to State Department of Education regulations.
22. Maintain students’ pay records.
23. Evaluate goals and objectives of the CVE program.

1. Assumes responsibilities for his/her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at
professional meetings, memberships in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses and
by reading professional journals and other publications.
2. Performs any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the
Director of Career and Technical Education or designee.
 
Travel Requirements 
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. 
Travels to complete site safety inspections and 10-day on-site student evaluations
 
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities 
  •  Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching methods and educational pedagogy.. 
  • Knowledge of a wide range of industrial, technical and technology-related subject areas, as well as best practices in incorporating technology into student learning activities. 
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. 
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. 
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. 
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. 
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Appointment is by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent. 

SALARY RANGE:
Based on the Middlesex County Magnet Schools Teachers Union Agreement
