JOB GOAL:
The School Social Worker will promote the academic mission by providing services that strengthen home/school/community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning and student successes by implementing effective intervention strategies. The School Social Worker will provide ongoing direct services to students and consultations to special education teachers and staff to address identified students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The School Social Worker will provide professional development to staff, students, and parents regarding identifying, treating, coping with mental health issues in elementary students.
 
 RESPONSIBILITIES:
 The Licensed Clinical Social Worker will: 
  1. Have two or more years working as a LCSW and knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations for serving in a school setting.
  2. Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team, including teachers, educational staff, administration and families.
  3. Identify social and/or emotional issues that elementary students face and work with them through those challenges.
  4. Collaborate with parents and school staff to create coordinated intervention strategies.
  5. Perform casework service with individual students or groups of students to correct those personal, social, emotional barriers related to their educational and social progress.
  6. Perform casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students: to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
  7. Consult and collaborate with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior.
  8. Monitor and report on students’ progress.
  9. Provide follow up consultation with parents and school staff.
  10. Provide guidance to teachers of high-risk students.
  11. Provide professional development to staff, students, and parents regarding identifying, treating, coping with mental health issues in elementary students.
  12. Supervises the referral of families and students to other professionals in the district as well as various out of school agencies and other professionals including mental health services or psychiatric help.
  13. Review students’ medical and mental health history.
  14. Adhere to the policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Education, administrative directives, and State and Federal regulations which are appropriate for the position
  15. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration
  16. Maintain physical and/or electronic student files
  17. Participate in professional meetings and attend workshops designed for professional development
  18. Demonstrate competence as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  19. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Supervisor. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:           Work year- Eleven (11) months; Salary and benefits pursuant to LEA contract
