QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma; college-level coursework and knowledge in human behavior, child development, law enforcement or related field preferred.
2. Valid New Jersey driver’s license/CDL endorsement preferred.
3. Knowledge of child welfare and compulsory education laws and regulations as determined by Board of Education.
4. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with children and adults and has sensitivity to cultural diversity.
5. Minimum 7 years’ experience in public safety/law enforcement and show evidence of successful experience working with youth and their families.
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: School Business Administrator or designee.

SUPERVISES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.

JOB GOAL: To assist in the maintenance of a safe school environment for students and staff. To assist in providing interventions that improve attendance of students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversees security responsibilities and maintains coverage.
2. Maintains communication with security and law enforcement personnel assigned to the District.
3. Serves on the safety and security committee.
4. Works as liaison for school system with local police and other County and State law enforcement entities.
5. Oversees and provides consultation to ensure safe school environment for students and staff.
6. Clears out student lockers of personal belongings and changes locker combinations as needed.
7. Maintains daily contact with school personnel to monitor undocumented absences and excessive tardiness; confers with parents and makes home calls when necessary.
8. Responsible for keeping daily attendance registers and tardiness records.
9. Collates monthly attendance reports and assists in compiling monthly district wide attendance reports and prepares an annual report on attendance and attendance related matters.
10.Advises/telephones parents of their legal responsibility to ensure school attendance for chronically absent students.
11.Handles all court matters pertaining to attendance problems; prepares necessary reports; and attends attendance pre-trial conferences and/or court sessions as required; also informs Administration to sign complaints against students/parents for nonattendance.
12.Refers families to Family Crisis Intervention Unit when appropriate.
13.Investigates challenges to students’ legal residence in accordance with law and Board policy; communicates with NJ Motor Vehicles Commission as needed for residence investigations.
14.Participates in attendance related meetings.
15.Communicates with Guidance Counselors, Child Study Team, and pertinent staff information involving student attendance.
16.Assists with development and implementation of corrective action plans regarding chronically absent students.
17.Remains current on laws involving student attendance and maintenance of attendance records.
18.Counsels students regarding absenteeism and tardiness to gain their cooperation and identify any underlying problems that may warrant investigation.
19.Completes reports of any noted conditions which may be a detriment to the safety, welfare, or education of the student.
20.Protects confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and uses discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
21.Provides outreach services when needed.
22.Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month year. Salary, calendar and benefits to be established by the Board of Education.
