Description

Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of a Learning Disabilities Teacher - Consultant (LDTC). This position is responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS: Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Educational Services Certificate Endorsement. The Learning Consultant is an educational specialist who has the professional preparation and experience: (1) to make an assessment and analysis of a child’s learning characteristics (assets and deficits); (2) to design instructional strategies and plan educational programs; (3) to play an active role on the Child Study Team; (4) to act as an educational consultant to classroom teachers; and (5) to plan for and provide in-service education.

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Learning Disabilities Teacher- Consultant (LDTC) functions in three basic areas: (1) the school, (2) the classroom, and (3) the community.

A. Child Study Team Functions

  1. Attend Child Study Team Meetings.
  1. Observe and evaluate children referred for full Child Study Team evaluation for academic reasons.
  1. Plan IEP with parent, team, and school personnel.
  1. Prepare diagnostic teaching prescriptions.
  1. Prepare specific Instructional Guide of the IEP with the teacher.
  1. Attend Child Study Team staffings in schools.
  1. Hold interpretive conferences with teachers and parents.
  1. Evaluate children for early admission to Kindergarten.

B. Coordination of Special Programs

1. Coordinate Glassboro State College Learning Center with the Public School.

2. Coordinate the administering of the State Educational Assessment Program.

3. Coordinate supplemental/homebound teacher program.

C. Educational Consultant to Special Class Teachers

1. Visit special classes as a resource person.

2. Visit special classes to demonstrate new techniques/materials.

3. Evaluate progress of students by periodic conferences with teachers.

4. Evaluate progress of Glassboro students attending out-of-district schools.

5. Attend staffings on tuition students in our district when requested.

D. Educational Consultant to Special Class Teachers

1. Assist in curriculum development and in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.


2. Attend staff meetings and serve as appropriate of staff meetings.


3. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.


4. Perform duties which are within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as assigned by his/her supervisor in accordance with N. J. State Law, State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, and Local Board of Education Policies and contractual obligations.


5.Strive to maintain awareness of current developments, interpretations of subject matter content, and methodology of teaching in the subject area(s) to which assigned.


6. Maintain ethical and professional behavior in working with school personnel and other agencies.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
