Job Title
Supervisor of Guidance

Reports to:
Building Principal and/or other appropriately certified superior as designated by the Superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Students, and when assigned, student teachers, and classroom aides.

Term of Employment
12 months (July-June))

Salary: 

Salary determined by the GEHR Board of Education and commensurate with experience.

Job Goal: 
The Supervisor of Guidance serves as a leader within the school district, utilizing their expertise in counseling and education to provide strategic direction and support to counselors, faculty, and staff. Through collaborative initiatives and innovative practices, the Supervisor of Guidance helps to create a  positive and inclusive school climate to foster academic success, personal development, and social-emotional well-being for all students. By promoting a comprehensive and responsive guidance program and through ongoing professional development, advocacy, and engagement, the Supervisor of Guidance ensures that every student receives the guidance and support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Qualifications:
Education: 
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university with specialization in guidance and counseling.
 
License/Certification:
  • Administrative Certificate - 0106: Supervisor and/or 0602: Director of School Counseling
  • Successful completion of required criminal history review background check and sexual misconduct/child abuse disclosure process
  • Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status
  
Experience/Background:
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role within an educational setting, preferably in guidance counseling or a related field.
  • Extensive experience as a guidance counselor, with a strong understanding of counseling principles and practices.
  • Experience in developing and implementing guidance curriculum, including post-secondary planning and career exploration programs.
  • Proven ability to manage various programs related to guidance counseling, such as dual enrollment, advanced placement, early college programs, and testing coordination.
  • Experience in budget planning and management, including allocating resources effectively to support guidance counseling programs and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in analyzing data related to student outcomes, program effectiveness, and resource utilization to inform decision-making and improve services.
  • Experience in building and maintaining partnerships with educational and community agencies, as well as collaborating with parents to support student success.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, facilitate meetings, and advocate for the needs of students and staff.
Responsibilities:
  1. Leadership and Planning:
    • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of long-range plans for the department.
    • Monitor departmental programs and their progress toward accomplishment of departmental goals.
    • Recommend assignment of departmental staff to the administration.
    • Develop the master schedule for the school.
 
  1. Support and Supervision:
    • Assist department supervisors and administrators as needed.
    • Observe and evaluate the performance of professional staff.
    • Supervise the school's Basic Skills Program.
    • Manage Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, and Early College Programs and courses.
    • Coordinate all school testing.
    • Facilitate honor roll and awards recognitions.
 
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Serve as liaison with educational and community agencies outside of school as well as with parents.
    • Work cooperatively with colleagues and the administration.
    • Encourage professional growth both personally and among staff.
    • Plan, implement, and evaluate parent programs.
    • Develop and evaluate services and programs in the area of mental health, suicide prevention/awareness programs.
 
  1. Professional Development and Continuous Improvement:
    • Strive to increase the efficient use of district resources in the management of the department.
    • Develop curricular programs and pathways for student post-secondary plans and opportunities.
