Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction

Job Goal:

To provide exceptional leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of the district’s curricula, and to implement a supervisory process that will cultivate and strengthen teachers’ instructional capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from a recognized college/university

  • Valid New Jersey Supervisor, School Administrator or Principal certificate

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience

  • Strong knowledge of content and current pedagogical practices

  • Leadership in school improvement, program development and curriculum integration and application of technology across the curricula

  • Ability to plan, organize and administer a professional development program within the school community

  • All other qualifications that the Board may find appropriate to the position

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the continuous and focused study of the curriculum, affecting those improvements both in quality and scope to enhance the instruction in grades PK through 8.  The prime purpose shall be the direction and coordination and evaluation  of the total learning experience to promote continuous, integrated scope and sequence of instruction

  • Provide leadership in the development of the PK-8 curricula of subjects assigned

  • Serve as a Princeton High School liaison in subject areas assigned

  • Provide professional direction through observation and evaluations of instructional personnel both present and new, in light of the aims and philosophy of the Cranbury School District

  • Supervise the design and implementation of the district new teacher/mentor program

  • Conduct formal and informal classroom observations and annual summary evaluations

  • Review lesson plans regularly and provide supervision and evaluation that includes meaningful feedback to strengthen and sustain instruction/performance

  • Assist teachers in developing professional growth plans (i.e. IPDP, SGO) designed to align with school goals, enhance classroom practice, and promote student growth

  • Encourage and develop leadership capacity of staff

  • Assist in the development, organization, and coordination of in-service professional development programs and State Mandated District Plan for the improvement of instruction. Report and monitor outcomes of the Plan. 

  • Develop a systematic approach to programming and the assessment and adoption of textbooks/instructional materials and provide recommendations to the CSA/Principal and School Business Administrator 

  • Assist in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction

  • Work with the Chief School Administrator/Principal, Assistant Principal and Special Services Supervisor in the coordination of school-wide student activities

  • Recommend professional development, instruction workshops, study groups, school visitations, and professional conferences which are in the interest and effort of improved instruction, relative to assigned content areas and grade levels

  • Collaborate with teachers in the analysis of student achievement data and assessments.  Identify strategies that are being implemented to support progress or to address deficiencies identified in evaluating data.

  • Plan for and present at meetings each year, as directed by the Chief School Administrator/Principal, for the purpose of interpreting to the Board of Education and to the parents and public at large the educational program of the school

  • Schedule and organize departmental meetings in order to effect horizontal, cross departmental and K-8 vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program of the school

  • Provide input to the Chief School Administrator/Principal for the development of long-range strategic planning of the district’s program needs

  • Keep abreast of and interpret to the staff the current research in the areas of curriculum development, teaching, learning and technology and maintain a curriculum reference library of resources including instructional materials, textbooks and curriculum guides for the use of the staff to enhance the instruction program

  • Assume responsibility for their own professional growth and development by attending seminars, conference workshops, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses and by reading professional publications.

  • Provide community education and outreach to English as a Second Language students and their families 

  • Promote the success of all students and staff by acting with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner

  • Demonstrate and model professionalism

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief School Administrator/Principal

 

Terms of Employment:

  • 10-month contract (plus 14 days in the Summer)


Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified staff.
