  1. Valid NJ Educational Services Certificate and School Social Worker Endorsement.
  2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  3. Effective problem solving, human relations and communication skills.
  4. Experience working with Social Services agencies, community agencies and organizations, community health and/or counseling agencies.
  5. Required Criminal History Background check and proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Resident Alien status.
  6. Proof of New Jersey residency, as required by statute.


REPORTS TO:        Principal or Supervisor


JOB GOAL:  To help students resolve such personal, emotional and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and to maximize the benefits of the education provided to them.




  1. Serve as required as the Anti-Bullying Specialist
  2. Serve as required as the Coordinator of 504 Services
  3. Function as a member of or chairperson of the Intervention and Referral Services team.
  4. Function as a member or chairperson of the School Safety Team
  5. Function as required as a member of the Code Red Emergency Response Team.
  6. Assess students in terms of personal and family history, socio-economic and cultural differences.
  7. Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
  8. Provide crisis intervention services as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team
  9. Serve as liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students, by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting.
  10. Provide support for building PTOs or PTSOs.
  11. Initiate, facilitate and maintain liaison with community agencies and other resources in order to meet needs of students. Refer parents to child agencies, when appropriate.
  12. Consult with Administration and staff regarding social adjustment factors of students in school, at home and in the community.
  13. Provide staff consultation on behavioral, emotional and environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning pröcess.
  14. Conduct staff development as required by the Principal or Supervisor.
  15. Counsel students and/or parents or guardians regarding social adjustment problems.
  16. Observe students, as necessary, in classroom and/or outdoor environment.
  17. Attend and participate in meetings as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor, and as deemed necessary and consistent with the needs of the district.
  18. Participate in professional development, as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.
  19. Perform all duties required by administrative code, state and federal laws and board policy.
  20. Assume other related duties/assignments, as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor.



  • Ten (10) month work year; tenurable.
  • Salary and compensation as established by the Teachers' Collective Negotiations Agreement.
  • Evaluated annually by the Supervisor, special services, consistent with Achieve NJ standards.
