Preschool Master Teacher

PURPOSE:
 
To provide coaching and support in the organization, implementation, and coordination of the Early Childhood instructional program to ensure that all students meet and exceed the New Jersey Department of Education’s State Standards. Achieving excellence requires that the Master Teacher works collaboratively with teachers to support their implementation of the curriculum, instruction, and assessment continuum.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 

  • Hold a standard teaching certificate in Early Childhood
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in a preschool setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning. 
  • Have excellent teaching experience working directly with preschool children and/or in a school setting
  • Have experience in providing professional development to classroom teachers and/or mentoring teachers.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people 
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS)
  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, and administration
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications 
  • Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative
 
 
REPORTS TO:    Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  1. Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure the effective implementation of a quality, standards-based preschool curriculum.
 
  1. Work cooperatively and collectively with teachers to ensure that high-quality programs, practices, and services are coordinated in the schools and are administered uniformly and equitably.
 
  1. Monitor programs in alignment with the New Jersey Department of Education’s State Preschool Standards to ensure that each student meets and exceeds the Standards, consistent with the mission, philosophy, values, and instructional goals of the district by way of the following: 
 
 
 
 
  • Use of data to identify student and instructional needs; 
  • Clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the various programs; 
  • Curriculum development to meet the State Standards; 
  • Orientation and assistance for new staff members; 
  • Communication among staff; 
  • Professional development to expand and improve skills; 
  • Analysis of assessments to improve instruction.
 
  1. Collect and analyze data regarding the achievement of students and other pertinent information affecting the design and implementation of services and programs.
 
  1. Provide coordination in the implementation of instructional programs and services regularly to encourage the use of various instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
 
  1. Provide ongoing training, coaching, and modeling to teachers related to instruction, assessment, and classroom climate.
 
  1. Provide classroom coaching and modeling with the goal to ensure that instructional programs engage the learners in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
 
  1. Provide orientation and assistance and monitor the performance of new staff. 
 
  1. Establish a professional rapport with staff members.
 
  1. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with staff members.
 
  1. Use effective presentation skills when addressing staff, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
 
  1. Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues. 
 
  1. Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the administrators. Answer correspondence promptly.
 
  1. Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
 
  1. Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences. 
 
  1. Summarize, interpret, and disseminate current developments in instruction, learning theory, and cognitive research through the reading of professional journals, participation in professional development, and involvement in professional organizations. 
 
  1. Perform any duties that are assigned by the Director of Early Childhood.

REPORTS TO AND IS EVALUATED BY:
 
The Preschool Master Teacher shall be evaluated by the Director of Early Childhood in accordance with Board Policy and relevant State statute(s).
 
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
 
Ten (10) Month

* There will be up to thirty (30) summer hours during July and August that will be paid in accordance with the hourly rate as per the contract
