LEAVE REPLACEMENT - SPANISH TEACHER
WEST CALDWELL TECH

 
The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a Leave Replacement Spanish Teacher at Payne Tech during the 2023-24 school year.

Position Purpose
- Under the supervision of the School Principal, the Spanish Teacher is dedicated to developing students' proficiency and passion for the Spanish language. This role involves creating an engaging curriculum, fostering cultural appreciation, and promoting a positive learning environment. The Spanish Teacher contributes significantly to students' language skills, cultural understanding, and overall academic success.

Qualifications:

  • Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods in Spanish language instruction.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  • Must be a resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in the Spanish language in accordance with district curriculum.
  • Promotes critical and creative thinking in Spanish language learning.
  • Cultivates a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for Spanish language instruction, creating engaging and relevant learning experiences.
  • Designs activities to demonstrate the application of the Spanish language to everyday communication and cultural understanding.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, adapting instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and state standards for Spanish language proficiency.
  • Engages in continuous professional development to stay informed of current developments in language education.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate records of student activities, achievement, and attendance.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' language education and ensures effective communication.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborates with other language educators and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies for Spanish language instruction, maintaining inventory records.


Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
 This is a temporary position during the 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
(2022-2023 contractual rate) Contract for 2023-2024 is currently under negotiation.

The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center.  In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees.
