Title:                      1 Bus Drivers
                       
Qualifications:
                                Must have a valid NJ Driver’s License
                                Must be able to obtain a CDL License
                                Must be able to work a flexible schedule
                                Must be able to transport students to and from school
                                Must be able to adhere to board policies and department regulations           
                                Must be reliable with a good work ethic
                                Must be able to relate positively with students/parents at bus stops
                                Must be conscientious and knowledgeable of safety regulations
                                Must be able to pass the required criminal history review and S414
 
Performance Responsibilities:
 
  1. Fills the vehicle with fuel and performs a safety check on vehicle including but not limited to, testing warnings beacons by opening the door before starting each trip
  2. Switches off warning beacons upon completion of school route
  3. Escorts children across the road if beacons fail to operate or if there are none of the vehicle.
  4. Maintains full charge of the vehicle and secures good order of students being transported.
  5. Reports disruptive pupils to the principal of the school which the pupils attend.
  6. Follows the established routes only and makes stops only as designated by the Board of Education.
  7. Opens the door only when traffic has cleared the vehicle in both directions.
  8. Insures that pupils, who must cross the road to their destinations, cross in front of the vehicle after checking warning beacons and telling them it is safe to cross.
  9. Closes the door and starts the vehicle after all passengers have crossed the road.
  10. Stops the motor, removes the key, and sets the brakes before stepping out of the bus at all times.
  11. Fills out “Preliminary School Bus Accident Report” in triplicate and delivers to supervisor of transportation immediately following any accident on or near the bus, and reports any accidents occurring immediately before or after a pupil enters or leaves a bus or wagon.
  12. Stops at railroad crossings and at intersections marked with “Stop” signs and exercises utmost care before proceeding.
  13. Complies with all traffic regulations of the Motor Vehicle Department including observance of speed limits.
  14. Closes the doors before putting the vehicle in motion and keeps them closed until the vehicle has completely stopped.
  15. Loads and unloads pupils on school grounds or on the road entering school grounds with the vehicle facing the legal direction.
  16. Stops signal beacons while loading and unloading at the school building in order that the traffic may proceed at the legal rate of ten (10) miles per hour.
  17. Cleans the vehicle interior thoroughly every day.
  18. Performs other related duties assigned by the supervisor of transportation.
