TITLE: Director of Special Services
ANNUAL SALARY: $113,000 to $135,000
The Director of Special Services will provide cross-program leadership to ensure high-quality, aligned special education programming and services across the Shore Center and Regional Achievement Academy, with a focus on instructional excellence, clinical integrity, and effective systems of support.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Jersey Principal Certification required
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience in Special Education and/or Administration
- Experience with applied behavior analysis and behavioral program development preferred; BCBA certification or coursework a plus
- Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated leadership in school improvement and implementation of special education programming
- Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal special education laws, regulations, procedures, and reporting requirements
- Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with alternative education programs and out-of-district placements preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead within complex or shared-service systems and collaborate effectively with sending districts
REPORTS TO:
Superintendent of Schools and/or Assistant Superintendent, in collaboration with building principals
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership across both Shore Center and Regional Achievement Academy to ensure alignment of programming, systems, and service delivery
- Oversee program operations in accordance with state law, administrative code, board policies, and regulations
- Lead program-level planning to strengthen instruction, learning environments, and service delivery
- Collaborate in the development, evaluation, and implementation of curriculum and special education programming
- Oversee behavioral services, including implementation of research-based instructional strategies, assessments, data systems, and interventions
- Provide leadership and oversight of behavioral programming, including FBAs and BIPs, ensuring implementation fidelity and effective crisis prevention and response
- Support staff in addressing complex behavioral and crisis situations using structured, trauma-informed, and safety-focused approaches
- Provide direct supervision and support to multidisciplinary staff, fostering professional growth and accountability
- Evaluate certificated and non-certificated staff in accordance with TeachNJ and district policy
- Lead the use of data to monitor student progress, evaluate program effectiveness, and inform instructional and behavioral decision-making
- Participate in student-centered meetings, including intake meetings, IEP meetings, manifestation determinations, debriefings, and crisis planning
- Co-lead clinical staffing meetings to support comprehensive student programming
- Plan and deliver professional development in collaboration with building leadership
- Model and support the implementation of evidence-based practices through consultation, coaching, and program development
- Maintain and promote best practices in applied behavior analysis aligned with assent-based and neurodiversity-affirming approaches
- Provide parent/guardian training and consultation
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of all required reports, records, and documentation
- Serve as a liaison to sending districts, fostering clear communication and alignment around student programming
- Support recruitment and retention efforts through collaboration with the central office and targeted outreach
- Foster clear, responsive communication with students, staff, families, and community members, and collaborate with staff to support students' academic, social, and emotional development
- Keep the Superintendent informed of program needs and collaborate with the central office on programmatic and operational matters
- Participate in administrative meetings, committee work, and ongoing professional development
- Attend school events and activities as appropriate
- Adhere to all board policies, administrative directives, and state and federal regulations
- Promote a program culture grounded in clarity, consistency, and connection, recognizing that adult systems directly impact student outcomes
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full Time, Twelve Months; salary and benefits as per Collective Bargaining Agreement: PTO, family health benefits, prescription, and dental.
ANNUAL EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Bayshore Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
