SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER (CHILD STUDY TEAM)

The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a 10-month Social Worker at Payne Tech for the 2023-24 school year.

Position Purpose
- Under the guidance of the Superintendent, Essex County Vocational Schools of Technology is actively seeking a dedicated and qualified full-time School Social Worker. This crucial position is designed to address the social and emotional well-being of students, supporting their overall academic success and personal development. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in fostering a positive school environment by providing individual and group counseling, conducting assessments, and collaborating with educators, parents, and community resources.

Qualifications:
  • Hold a Master's degree in Social Work and possess relevant state licensure and certification.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the NJ State Special Education Code and stay current with best practices in the field of school social work.
  • Possess experience in conducting social and emotional assessments and implementing evidence-based interventions.
  • Exhibit proficiency in collaborating with Child Study Teams and other educational professionals to support students with diverse needs.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinates the district's mindfulness initiative.
  2. Provides support and guidance to staff members in the area of mental health.
  3. Supports our district initiatives on a variety of mental health topics including, but not limited to, cultural diversity, systems theory, social justice, risk assessment and intervention, consultation and collaboration, and clinical intervention strategies to address the mental health needs of students. 
  4. Serves as a resource to administrators and other educators, providing consultation and training on identifying students with mental health needs and a referral process when services are sought; delivers professional development to our staff.  
  5. Works to integrate services in our district including mental health, behavioral, and academic supports and school-based and community services.
  6. Demonstrates special expertise in understanding family and community systems and linking students and their families with community services essential to promote student success.
  7. Designs and implements school-based programs to promote a positive district climate among all students. 
  8. Works with the entire student body to identify students in need of more intensive interventions and connect these students to additional services in the community where needed.
  9. Provides supports to all at-risk students.
  10. Work with teachers, administrators, parents, and other educators to provide coordinated interventions and consultation designed to keep students in school and help families access the supports needed to promote student success.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
 This is a full-time day position during 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
(2022-2023 contractual rate) Contract for 2023-2024 is currently under negotiation.

The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center.  In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees.
