Job Description: 

The Network & Server Administrator’s role is to support and maintain computer systems, servers, peripherals, networks, cloud systems, integrations, and associated instructional, administrative and system software. This role requires the management and maintenance of district infrastructure software and hardware. Additional duties include network and server monitoring maintenance to ensure service availability and security.  This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware, software and associated equipment while ensuring optimal system performance as well as administering network security measures. The Network & Server Administrator will also troubleshoot problem areas promptly and accurately and provide end-user support, training, and assistance where and when required.  The individual in this position must be comfortable in a diverse, fast-paced environment and able to analyze data to translate results into better solutions.



  • Support, configure, maintain and upgrade network and server equipment.

  • Installing and integrating new server hardware and applications.

  • Manage all infrastructure equipment and maintain best-practice configurations.

  • Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput, and latency) and test for weaknesses.

  • Ensure network security and connectivity.

  • Support and administer third-party applications.

  • Establish network specifications.

  • Manage day-to-day IT infrastructure.

  • Monitor networking equipment and servers.

  • Ensure security for web users’ accounts and information.

  • Provide helpdesk support for network issues and respond to requests for IT support.

  • Provide escalated support for technicians.

  • Document internal procedures.

  • Install, test, and monitor servers, firewalls, and new software.

  • Perform data backups.

  • Install and update network systems as needed.

  • Keep inventory of equipment, software, and licenses.

  • Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, tuning, troubleshooting network problems, and escalating problems to vendors.

  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation.

  • Prepares techs by designing and conducting training; providing references and support.

  • Provide guidance to technicians in order to troubleshoot and resolve problems.

  • Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.

  • Evaluate and negotiate with outside vendors for technology-related services.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

  • Protects the organization's confidential information.

  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, move, and troubleshoot end-user hardware, networked peripheral devices, and networking hardware products.

  • Where required, install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot associated end-user software and networking software products.

  • Perform on-site and remote analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex technical problems for various end-users and recommend and implement corrective hardware/software solutions.

  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding technology issues.

  • Support development and implementation of new technology projects and new hardware installations.

  • Assist in resolving technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), wireless networks, and other systems.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hardware and equipment contracts and supervise contract-based installations.

  • If necessary, liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors.


Education, experience, and skills required:

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or I.T. preferred.

  • Certifications in technology systems including CCNA, MCSE, Network +, Server +, and Security + preferred.

  • Hands-on experience in networking, routing, and switching.

  • Three years of experience installing and configuring network devices, including servers, switches, and routers with extensive knowledge in TCP/IP addressing and routing preferred.

  • Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure.

  • Experience with firewalls, Internet VPN’s remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution is desired.

  • Ability to setup and configure server hardware.

  • Strong working knowledge with backup and recovery software and methodologies.

  • Technical knowledge of network and PC hardware, including digital media systems.

  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.

  • Extensive equipment support experience with Mac, PC, and peripherals.

  • Working technical knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, and standards.

  • Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.

  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.

  • Ability to conduct research into technical issues and products as required.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

  • Understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.

Additional Duties:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Information Technology or Superintendent of Schools.

Travel requirements: 

Travel to school district locations to repair hardware, install software and assist end users.

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would qualify.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • 3-5 years of relevant IT experience in a previous role

  • High school degree or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred

  • Experience with helpdesk or IT support

  • Experience working with network and server management support

  • Up-to-date knowledge of new systems, information, software, and upgrades

  • Strong working knowledge with the following: Cisco products, Network Monitoring Tools, Windows Server, Windows Domain, DNS, Telnet, DHCP, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Member Servers, GSuite, NAS Storage environment, network routing, databases, vlans, wireless.

  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift equipment

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

  • Related college or technical school coursework.

  • Documented training in computer hardware, software and network use, troubleshooting and repair.

  • Networking and systems certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, Dell, HP, and Lenovo preferred.

  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

  • Significant successful related experience in computer and network installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.


Terms of Employment

Twelve-month employment.



The annual performance evaluation will be based upon this position description.
