Description
  • Responsible for the operation and supervision of the school media center

 

  • Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system.

 

  • Coordinates library skills instruction with classroom instruction

 

  • Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and makes media center materials available to supplement the instructional program.

 

  • Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new media center materials and informs teachers and other staff of new acquisitions.

 

  • Provides a sequential program of library skills instruction.

 

  • Instructs students in the use of various types of materials and equipment, including CD Rom, online services, and other technologies.

 

  • Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments.

 

  • Conducts inservice education for teachers in the effective evaluation, selection, and use of materials.

 

  • At the request of the teacher, presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic

 

  • Prepares and administers the Media Center

 

  • Supervises the clerical activities necessary for the effective operation of the Media Center.

 

  • Maintains professional library materials for teacher use.

 

  • Assists teachers in planning and presentation of lessons which integrate the use of technology in all subject matter.

 

  • Assists teachers in adapting their existing curriculum and lessons to incorporate technological teaching tools.

 

  • Demonstrates lessons that integrate these technology teaching tools.

 

  • Works with students and teachers to provide small and large group instruction to students utilizing the technology resources.

 

  • Coordinates software use among the district’s schools.

 

  • Trains teachers and support staff in the assessment, purchase and appropriate use of both hardware and software.

 

  • Coordinates the implementation of the existing computer curriculum and technology skills.

 

  • Supervises periodic updating of systems and software to reflect educational goals and current state of technology.

 

  • Facilitates regular updates to keep staff informed of the rapid changes in technology and the implications for their own classrooms.

 

  • Assists in planning and research needed to make best use of budget in the purchase of hardware and software.

 

  • Disseminates information regarding conferences, workshops and courses available to the staff.

 

  • Coordinates distribution and repair of AV equipment.

 

  • Develops and maintains computer hardware and software inventory.

 

  • Serves on the District Technology Committee.

 

  • And any other duties as assigned.
