LEAVE REPLACEMENT- TEACHER OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
WEST CALDWELL TECH

 

The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a temporary Leave Replacemen tTeacher of Physical Education at West Caldwell Tech for the rest 2023-24 school year.

Position Purpose 
- Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Leave Replacement Teacher of Physical Education aims to foster students' physical fitness and well-being. This role involves developing students' skills, competence, and understanding in various aspects of physical education. The focus is on promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, encouraging teamwork, and cultivating a positive attitude towards physical fitness.


Qualifications:

  • Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate in Physical Education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Must be resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical education, aligning with the district curriculum.
  • Foster critical and creative thinking in various aspects of physical education.
  • Create a safe and conducive environment for individualized and small group instruction.
  • Develop comprehensive lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into engaging learning experiences.
  • Design activities to demonstrate the practical application of physical education to daily life, including research projects, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress, modifying instructional methods to cater to individual needs, including those of students with special requirements.
  • Stay informed about district and state standardized tests, adapting the curriculum to enhance student achievement.
  • Engage in continuous professional development through seminars, workshops, and professional meetings.
  • Organize and maintain accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' physical education and maintain effective communication with both students and parents.
  • Uphold standards of student behavior, ensuring a positive and functional learning atmosphere in the gym.
  • Collaborate with fellow professional staff members, participating in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate instructional materials, equipment, and supplies, maintaining inventory records and ensuring equipment is in optimal condition.



Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
 This is a temporary during 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
(2022-2023 contractual rate) Contract for 2023-2024 is currently under negotiation.

The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex.
