Qualifications:     State of New Jersey Elementary Standard or Provisional Teacher Certificate, or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing.

Experience as an innovative classroom teacher or special area teacher that successfully integrated the use of English Language Arts content and skills to enhance student learning, with demonstrable results.  

The primary responsibility of the Cultural Literacy Teacher is to advance student and faculty knowledge in the area of library sciences and cultural literacy into instruction and learning outcomes.

Reports to:          Building Principal and Curriculum Office

Performance Responsibilities:

1. An understanding of and the ability to follow and fulfill all duties as identified in the job description of a Teaching Staff Member.
2. Implement any instruction and action which stems from the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
3. Assists with the selection and purchase of supplemental supplies for the program.
4. Model ways to incorporate cultural understandings into units of study in various curriculum areas.
5. Provides instruction in literature with an emphasis on culture, language, and cross-cultural studies.
6. Develop pupil understanding and appreciation of culture.
7. Develops pupil understanding of cultural values, attitudes, and differences that enhance cross cultural communication.
8. Develops pupil understanding of use of language and communication as a global literacy as well as for its long term worth in fostering personal, work-
related, and/or financial success in our increasingly interconnected world.
9. Review and select all materials (audio-visual, subscriptions, periodicals, and books) to be housed in the library according to Board Policy 5:2.
10. Catalog or see that all materials are processed or cataloged in the library.
11. Give guidance to the Library Aide concerning work to be completed.
12. Keep accurate records concerning circulation, overdue materials and card catalog.
13. Inventory all materials in the library before the end of the school year.
14. Perform other related duties as required by the position or assigned by the Chief Academic Officer and/or building administration.

Terms of Employment:  10 months

Evaluation:  In accordance with N.J.A.C. and Employee Contract.
