Third Grade Teacher (Full-Time)

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Principal, the third grade teacher provides instruction and assessment in all content areas to third grade students. 

Founded in 1954, The Academy of Our Lady of Peace is a Catholic elementary school serving children in Preschool to 8th Grade. Students come from New Providence as well as surrounding communities and parishes. 

The goal of The Academy of Our Lady of Peace is to develop students who are solidly grounded in moral values and who are respectful, committed, confident, self-disciplined, and academically excellent individuals. We are proud that our students go on to some of the finest private and public secondary education institutions in New Jersey.

The teacher shall report  each  day  school  is  in  session  or  when  so  required  by  the principal, and shall remain until all students are dismissed. The school year runs from September 1 to June 30th.

  • The days and times will be determined by the principal.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Teaching Certificate
  • Teaching experience (preferred)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The following specific responsibilities are representative of the duties required in this position. They may be unilaterally but reasonably changed based on the working environment and departmental needs.

  • Developing lesson plans that align with curriculum standards.
  • Teaching the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and religion to third grade students.
  • Assess and monitor student learning and provide feedback on their progress.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to engage students in the learning process.
  • Organizing feedback sessions with students and their parents if applicable.
  • Organizing fun events where students can showcase their skills.
  • Foster the social and emotional development of students through guidance and support.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to stand for at least 50% of assigned instructional time and for the duration of coverage of lunchroom or recess
  • Able to move around the classroom and other areas in the building where students are gathered to monitor and assist students
  • Sit, kneel or bend to work with a students who are seated at a table or desk
  • Accompany students as they move through the building, including up and down stairs
  • Move/carry books and other items needed for instruction
  • Move chairs/desks when needed
  • Perform physical tasks required to maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment
  • Write or type on a regular basis
