Description

Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of a Cafeteria Aide for the J. Harvey Rodgers School for a period of 2 hours each day. This position is responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience is a plus. Ability to demonstrate initiative, independence, and decision-making appropriate to the performance tasks of this position. Ability to reach above and below the waist. Ability to use fingers and hands to pick, feel, and grasp objects. Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, twist, reach, and pull. Ability to sit, walk, stand, and move throughout the work environment. Visual and auditory alertness.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Lunch Aide will provide assistance to students and staff during lunch times within the building. The Lunch Aide is responsible for maintaining an orderly, safe, and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria, on the playground, and in other designated locations by helping and supervising students at mealtime and playtime in accordance with Board Policy and established district procedures.

  1. Monitors and supervises students during lunch periods.
  1. Circulate among assigned tables during mealtime so as to be available to children who need help or to resolve any minor problems that arise.
  1. Maintains order in the cafeteria, and reinforces student manners, eating habits, and cleanup procedures.
  1. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
  1. Is alert to the students and their needs. Attends to students experiencing difficulties or engaging in antisocial behavior.
  1. Supervise and assist students as they are dismissed from lunch tables.
  1. Provides for students’ emergency first aid needs during lunch periods.
  1. Enforces safety rules, appropriate behavior standards, and school cafeteria policies.
  1. Report hazardous areas and/or equipment to the building principal.
  1. Report disciplinary problems to the building principal or appropriate staff member.
  1. Maintain an appropriate record of punctuality and attendance.
  1. Maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with district guidelines.
  1. Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards.
  1. Manages inventory and control of playground/recreational, and instructional equipment and materials during lunch periods.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
