Security Guard

Reports to:
Assistant Principals

Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities.

Term of Employment
10 months (September-June)

Salary: 

Salary determined by the GEHR Board of Education and commensurate with experience.

Job Goal: 
The Security Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of students and staff, as well as safeguarding school facilities and property. This involves vigilant monitoring of campus areas to deter unauthorized individuals and prevent misconduct. Additionally, they verify identification, report safety hazards, and assist in maintaining orderliness. By upholding security measures, the Security Guard contributes to a safe, conducive learning environment.

Qualifications:
Education: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
 
License/Certification:
  • Valid NJ Drivers License required.
  • Successful completion of required criminal history review background check and sexual misconduct/child abuse disclosure process
  • Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status
  
Experience:
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Previous experience in law enforcement or security is preferred.
Responsibilities:
  1. Patrolling and Surveillance:

  • Patrols the grounds, hall areas, and points of entry to eliminate intruders and unauthorized persons from the campus.

  • Monitors the premises for any signs of suspicious activity or individuals.

  1. Identification Verification:

  • Verifies student and visitor identification when necessary to ensure authorized access to the premises.

  1. Prevention and Deterrence:

  • Deters misconduct and vandalism in the hall areas and other areas of the building and campus not directly supervised or occupied.

  • Prevents loitering in or around the school building and campus.

  1. Assistance and Support:

  • Assists in the removal of any suspended student from the premises upon request by the building administrator or principal.

  • Assists in the orderly flow of traffic in the school halls and campus.

  1. Safety and Security Reporting:

  • Reports any safety or fire hazards in school areas patrolled promptly.

  • Reports any violation of student rules and defacement of school property to the administration for appropriate action.

  1. Substance Use Prevention:

  • Deters, reports, and/or apprehends illegal use, sale, or exchange of alcohol and drugs in or around the school.

  1. Conflict Resolution and Protection:

  • Deters verbal and/or physical abuse of staff members during school sessions and on school property.

  • Responds promptly to any disturbances or conflicts and take appropriate action to maintain a safe environment.

  1. Equipment Maintenance:

  • Checks and maintains safety equipment as required to ensure readiness in case of emergencies.

  1. Additional Duties:

  • Performs any other duties as required by the Building Administrator, Business Administrator, or Superintendent to support school district operations.
