Description Purpose and Major Responsibilities and Duties:
The primary responsibility of the Benefits Manager is to manage all functions associated with the administration of the District’s health benefits program district-wide to include, but not limited to: health insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, prescription, dental, vision, flexible spending account plans, open enrollment, and employee assistance program (EAP). The Benefits Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws, including, but not limited to Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA).

Required Qualifications and Skill-Set:
  • Earned a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited university or equivalent.
  • Preferred Three (3) years of experience in Health Care Benefits and Insurance Management  
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience working with Insurance Brokers. 
  • Demonstrates excellent secretarial skills, including at least 50 words per minute at the keyboard with a minimum of errors, general bookkeeping skills, organizational and filing skills,and using electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office or equivalent computer programs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with no serious violations (if applicable to assignment).
  • Demonstrate appropriate telephone etiquette with proper voice inflection.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
  • Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community, including in difficult and emotional situations.
  • Provides evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and the Department of Education has given clearance. During the initial six months, provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.
  • Provides evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  • Passes the State-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  • Meets alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Physical Requirement
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
