Summary of Position

The JCC of Central New Jersey seeks a highly motivated, dynamic individual to join the leadership team of our Brody Family Early Learning Center (fully licensed by the Department of Children and Families - DCF). Our Early Learning program, with multiple options for children ranging from 6 weeks through Kindergarten, has a stellar reputation and robust enrollment serving almost 300 students (with regular waitlists). 

The Assistant Director of Early Childhood Services is responsible for the year-round pedagogy of the school including supporting the school’s curriculum needs, mentoring and coaching teachers, leading the school’s pedagogical team, and organizing professional development for Early Childhood staff. This position requires understanding of operations, budget, licensing and Early Childhood curriculum and best practices. The ideal candidate has the potential to succeed the Director of Early Childhood Services based on outstanding performance over time. This is a year-round full-time, overtime exempt position who reports to the Director of Early Childhood Services.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Represent Early Childhood in the absence of the Director
  • Implement the school’s curriculum as the leader of the pedagogical team and as a resource to the faculty
  • Supervise and support pedagogical staff team, including
    • Building community and culture
    • Supporting staff engagement
    • Preparing teachers for conferences
  • Organize and manage year-long professional development, including setting topics, hiring outside vendors and consultants, fostering and monitoring teacher progress
  • Support the EC Director in all operations and administrative functions of the Early Childhood Department
  • Serve as licensing designee for Department of Children and Families
  • Communicate with Early Childhood community, parents, and vendors on an ongoing basis
  • Partner with Early Childhood Parent Committee (ECPC) to enhance family engagement
  • Assist Director of Inclusion and Diversity to coordinate accommodations and supports for students with diverse learning styles
  • Collaborate with Marketing department to
    • Develop EC targeted communications and social media plans
    • Partner on the creation of signage and ECPC needs
  • Oversee purchase of equipment and supplies
  • Support and help manage budget areas that pertain to specific job functions of this role (professional development, family engagement, equipment and supplies)
  • Advise and support the Early Childhood camp leadership team leading up to and during the camp season

 Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education required; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of Early Childhood management experience required
  • Proven track record of success, innovation and growth with experience in Early Childhood programming
  • Ability to build relationships, lead with presence, and support and enhance the strengths of a productive team
  • Experience with effectively supervising educators
  • Proficiency in budget development and experience meeting and managing budgetary goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High emotional intelligence and people skills

 Physical Requirements

  • Sit stationary at a desk working on a computer
  • Move freely about the building during program hours
  • Spend significant time outdoors during the school day when needed
  • Lift up to 15 pounds

Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually depending on degree, skills and experience.
