The following Eatontown Public Schools position is anticipated beginning July 1, 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year:

 Supervisor of Special Services

Job Goal:
To provide students with a Free and Appropriate Public Education in the least restrictive environment in order to foster the development of knowledge and skills necessary for school services.

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools

Supervises: Child Study Team Members, Speech/Language Specialists, and Special Education Teachers and Paraprofessionals, together with principals, supervises School Counselors, and supervises the Preschool Program

Qualifications:

  1. Supervisor’s, Principal’s, and/or School Administrator’s Certification

  2. Certification as a School Psychologist, Speech/Language Specialist, LDT/C, Social Worker, and/or Teacher of Students with Disabilities

  3. Master’s degree in related area

  4. Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Child Study Team Member, Special Education Teacher, and/or Supervisor of Special Services or Special Education

  5. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Provides leadership in the development and provision of CST services.

  2. Provides leadership in the development and provision of special education and related services.

  3. Supervises the implementation of Board of Education policies and administrative procedures for the identification, evaluation and determination of eligibility of students for speech and/or related services as well as program implementation for disabled students.

  4. Insures that the needs of Educationally Disabled students are met in compliance with State and Federal Statutes, and with Board Policy.

  5. Develops procedures for the referral of potentially disabled students to the Child Study Team for evaluation.

  6. Arranges for the evaluation of referred students to the Child Study Team and needed consultants.

  7. Supervises the scheduling of meetings of the Child Study Team(s) and arrange for the attendance of school personnel, parents, and where appropriate, students, and representatives of community agencies for the purpose of classification, determination, and the constructions of IEPs.

  8. Facilitates the placement of disabled students into Special Education programs.

  9. Prepares and administers program budget.

     

  10. Responsible for the timely completion, filing, and maintenance of applications and required district reports.

  11. Participates in the recruitment of Special Education and Special Services staff as well as the school counselors.

  12. Interviews and recommends to the Superintendent applicants for appointment to Special Services and to Special Education programs as well as school counselors.

  13. Anticipates and plans for personnel needs in Special Services and Special Education.

  14. Contributes to the development of a total school philosophy and Board of Education policies concerning Special Education students and Special Services.

  15. Works cooperatively with administrators in the development, staffing, implementation and evaluation of Special Education programs and services in accordance with State and Federal mandates as well as local policies and needs.

  16. Promotes staff to seek opportunities for educational grants, entitlements, and allocations available and relevant to the needs of the district.

  17. Ensures the provision of entitles services, supplies, and/or equipment for disabled students in the non-public school(s).

  18. Schedules staff meetings for Special Services and Special Education personnel as needed and when appropriate.

  19. Counsels students, parents, and staff members when needed and appropriate.

  20. If certification permits, may function as a Child Study Team member when needed and if appropriate.

  21. Works cooperatively with community agencies.

  22. Participates in public meeting with parents and community members.

  23. Attends meetings and required which are pertinent to Special Education and Special Services.

  24. Represents the Child Study Team as Administrative and Board student hearings when necessary,

  25. Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education and ensures that all requirements under administrative code, state/federal law, and Board policy are met.

  26. Assists in the development of policies and programs essential to the needs of children with disabilities.

  27. Shares responsibility with the district’s principals in the provision of school counseling services.

  28. Initiatives, facilitates and maintains liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet pupils’ special needs. Refers parents and child to agencies when appropriate.

  29. Interprets the objective of the district’s pupil services program to parents, students, staff and the community.

  30. Cooperates with building principals to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the pupil services program and to evaluate the performance o student services staff assigned to each school.

  31. Participates in the development and implementation of in-service programs.

  32. Performs such other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. 

Terms of Employment:
Work year consistent with other administrators.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
