Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Job Description
Gateway Regional High School – Starting July 2025
Position Summary:
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will oversee and lead all technology operations within Gateway Regional High School. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, the CTO will be responsible for strategic planning, implementation, and management of the district’s technology infrastructure, ensuring it supports both educational and operational goals. This role combines high-level strategic responsibilities with hands-on technical expertise to maintain and advance the district’s technology systems.
Qualifications:
Any combination of the following credentials: Master’s degree in Supervision, Administration, IT-related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering) and/or industry-related certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, CISSP).
Minimum of two years of experience with networked information systems in an educational or professional environment.
Strong knowledge of local and wide area networks, network security, and telecommunications systems.
Technical expertise in areas including:
Cisco networking and telephony
Windows Servers
VMware/Hyper-V
Fortigate firewalls and network security
Backup and recovery systems
Apple Products
Jamf Device Management
Digital Security Infrastructure, including door access controls and cameras
Industry certifications are highly desirable (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, CISSP).
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of educational technology tools and student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool).
Experience with dual PC and Apple environments is a plus.
Criminal history clearance and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Planning and Leadership
Develop and implement a multi-year technology plan that aligns with the district’s educational goals and operational needs.
Collaborate with administrators, staff, and the Technology Committee to forecast future technology requirements and ensure scalability.
Prepare and justify annual technology budget requests, balancing strategic priorities with district financial constraints.
2. Technology Infrastructure Management
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), ensuring optimal performance and security.
Lead the management of district hardware, software, servers, and telecommunications systems.
Serve as the primary technical expert for the firewall, VMware infrastructure, networking equipment, and server farm.
Ensure proper inventory management of all district technology assets.
3. Operational Oversight
Supervise and coordinate district technicians, providing leadership, training, and professional development opportunities.
Troubleshoot and address critical issues related to network/telecom circuits, hardware, and software.
Oversee technology-related preventative maintenance programs in alignment with district policies.
Manage district-wide technology projects, including summer upgrades and system migrations.
4. Educational Technology and Support
Collaborate with curriculum leaders to integrate technology into teaching and learning effectively.
Provide training workshops for staff and students on new and existing technology tools.
Act as or coordinate with the district webmaster to maintain the website and online resources for school and community use.
5. Vendor and Community Relations
Develop and maintain relationships with technology vendors to facilitate procurement and service agreements.
Partner with telecommunication providers to ensure high-speed internet access and distance learning capabilities.
Serve as the district liaison for technology-related collaborations with community stakeholders.

Work Year:
12-month position.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience and as established by the Gateway Regional School District.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policy.
This role is critical in ensuring that Gateway Regional High School remains a leader in educational innovation and operational excellence through the effective use of technology.
