Job Title: Dean of Student Life                                                

Department Name: Administration

Reports To: Directress

Mount Saint Mary Academy is seeking a dedicated, driven, and mission-oriented Dean of Student Life to join our administrative team. This is a 12-month position that will begin this summer and continue through the 2025-2026 school year.

 

Job Goals

  • To support the development of the whole student by supervising and monitoring all extracurricular activities
  • To maintain a safe, inclusive, and enriching learning environment for all students
  • To provide supervision, coordination, communication, and evaluation of all programs related to Student Life

 

School and Community Relations

  • Supervision of Faculty and Staff moderators to ensure that all activities are running smoothly
  • Observations of teaching personnel, as assigned by the Directress
  • Serves in a participating or leadership role on school-wide committees and shared administrative responsibilities at the direction of the Directress

 

Responsibilities

Student Life

  • Coordinate all aspects of student life, including clubs, activities, and field trips
  • Plan and coordinate student assemblies, including setups in MySchoolBuilding and room reservations
  • Be visible around campus, especially in the Student Center and other locations (Snack Shack, Study Center, Senior Lane) during times when students are unstructured (CWP, lunches, after school)
  • Oversee and work closely with Student Council Moderator to ensure that Student Council events are approved by the Administration and run smoothly
  • Supervise, arrange, and approve chaperones for extracurricular events and all evening dances
  • Attend major student events, such as Prom, Semi-Formal, Soph Hop, and Senior Field Day

Clubs and Activities

  • Manage myMSMA permissions for activities and school trips
  • Prepares, proposes, and manages the activity budget with the Finance Office
  • Approve, arrange transportation, and manage logistics for field trips
  • Participates in and facilitates the Clubs and Activities portion of the Academy Awards
  • Oversee the Summer Academy program and work with the principal on scheduling and logistics
  • Oversee the Summer International Trip and work with the head chaperones on planning, communication, and implementation

Discipline

  • Enforce the school handbook and code of conduct for students
  • Investigate instances of student bullying, disrespect, and other handbook violations
  • Work with the SAC (Student Assistance Counselor) and parents to address each instance of bullying by investigating, communicating with all involved parties, and following up with student concerns and consequences
  • Communicate with parents, students, School Counseling, Faculty, Staff, and Administration with regard to student conduct
  • Manage the conduct tab of myMSMA
  • Hold detentions after school as needed
  • Monitor the student uniform, making “uniform check” announcements and periodically visiting classes and other student locations

Snack Shack and School Store

  • Oversee the management of the School Store and Snack Shack regarding procedures, purchasing, and making recommendations for new items

Nurse

  • Supervise the School Nurse and communicate regarding student attendance and medical concerns
  • Approve elevator usage, sneaker passes, and other medical accommodations for students

Attendance

  • Supervise the Attendance Coordinator
  • Enforce the attendance policy in the handbook
  • Monitor and review student attendance issues
  • Approve and manage end-of-quarter attendance communication to families

Four Seasons – Student Dining Services

  • Serve as the liaison from the Administration to Four Seasons management
  • Meet with Four Seasons and Finance Office each summer to renew contract/discuss dining options
  • Send food services and dining card information to families in August for the upcoming school year
  • Field questions from students and families regarding student dining options throughout the year
  • Post monthly menu calendars on myMSMA Resource Board for students and families
  • Communicate special schedule days to the cafeteria staff via email
  • Communicate snow days or other unplanned school closings to Four Seasons management

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

  • Serve as liaison between the Administration and the DEI Consultant
  • Plan and organize student DEI assemblies
  • Work with Directress and Assistant Directress to plan the DEI topics and coordinate the schedule for professional development sessions for faculty and staff
  • Supervise the SOCA (Students of Color Affinity Group) moderator and approve activities and events as they are proposed

Fathers Club

  • Supervise and approve all Fathers Club communications and events as they are proposed
  • Serve as Administrative liaison to the Fathers Club and attend Fathers Club meetings (one evening per month) and events (e.g., Golf Outing each fall, end-of-year gathering)

 

Communication Skills / Time Commitment Required

  • Clear, prompt, and professional communication with fellow Administrators, Faculty, Staff, students, and parents is of critical importance
  • Available during school hours and reachable by cell phone for emergencies
  • Available after school, in the evenings, and on the weekends to be physically present and supervise/attend school events such as dances, formals, Prom, Fall Drama, Spring Musical, Music Department Concerts, and other activities
  • Available to communicate regarding pressing matters after school, during evenings, and on weekends, as necessary for the smooth operation of the school
  • Travel required for Mercy Education Conferences, roughly two times per year

  

Technology Skills Preferred

  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Blackbaud Learning Management System
  • Adobe Suite

  

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership preferred
  • Administrative/leadership experience in a school setting preferred
  • Background in psychology or allied field preferred
