Glassboro Public Schools is currently seeking Special Education Aides for the 2020-2021 School Year for multiple schools in the district.

The Glassboro Special Education Department is looking for motivated individuals who are interested in an opportunity to grow and learn in a dynamic educational environment.

  • The Special Education aide works with teachers and the educational team to ensure that students with individual education programs receive the specialized attention that they need.

  • Under the supervision of a certified teacher, the special education aide works both collaboratively and individually to promote a positive, structured, achievement-oriented learning experience for our students.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to)

  • Work with students one-on-one or in small groups under the supervision of a certified teacher

  • Ability to provide academic and physical support to students with disabilities as directed by the classroom teacher

  • Assists in the implementation of the IEP as directed by the certified teacher for students receiving special education services

  • Observe and document student progress in support of their individual education plan

  • Assist with preparation, completion, and submission of student-related paperwork

  • Assists students with various needs including behavioral needs, medical and/or mobility needs

  • Records and reports appropriate data regarding academic, behavioral and/or health information and services provided to students using a data log as directed by certified staff

  • Assists students to use instructional materials and equipment.

  • Works with students to reinforce instructional objectives and implement Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives

  • Assists students with class routines and in transitioning from one activity or location to the next

  • Guides students in developing positive, appropriate interpersonal relationships with peers and adults

  • Supports students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assists in developing appropriate social skills

  • Assists in the management and shaping of student behavioral techniques and/or positive reinforcement strategies

  • Maintains a safe learning environment for students and staff

  • Monitors and assists students in educational and community settings

  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of students’ information

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 60 Credit Hours and substitute certification or potential to obtain substitute certificate
  • Willing to be trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention and De-escalation Techniques

  • Willing to be flexible in work assignments regarding grade levels and placements

  • Computer Proficiency and willingness to utilize technology in-person and in a virtual learning environment as needed.

  • Ability to demonstrate basic technology skills on computers, tablets, and laptops

  • Preferred Experience working within a school or with children
  • High interpersonal and communication skills
  • Successful Completion of Fingerprinting and Criminal History Review Process
