Spanish Teacher

POSITION:                        Anticipated World Language Teacher - Spanish

REQUIRED CRITERIA:

• Valid NJ Certification for Teacher of Spanish and advanced low on OPI for speaking
• Knowledge of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in ELA, NJ World Language Standards and ACTFL Proficiency Standards
• Working knowledge of Integrated Performance Assessments
• Good understanding of rubrics in both formative and summative assessment
• Flexibility to travel between buildings and levels, if necessary
• Strong English communication skills for parent communication
• Strong interpersonal skills (collaborating with colleagues, parents, students and administration on a regular basis)
• Enthusiastic advocate for world languages and ability to engage elementary students in differentiated activities
• Strong understanding of the Spanish culture and differences within Spanish-speaking countries
• Teacher toolbox that incorporates instructional strategies in all four modes and communicative approach at Novice to Intermediate language levels

PREFERRED CRITERIA:

• AATSP, FLENJ membership encouraged
• Additional certifications in French and/or German
• Knowledge of Seal of Biliteracy
• Teacher with personal experience in/traveled to Spanish speaking country
