Title: Part Time -  Middle School Counselor

  1. Qualifications:

 
  1. Valid New Jersey Educational Certificate as a School Counselor, Master’s Degree in Counselor, Guidance, or Social Work working with a K-12 population.  

  2. It is preferred that candidates have adequate training in current counseling techniques, social skills group facilitation, and/or experience in substance abuse prevention or an anti-bullying role.

 

II.    Position Summary:

 

The Part Time Middle School Counseling position reports to the building principal and shall be responsible for assisting the professional school counselors in work related to student needs and building goals.  Working closely with parents, students, and staff, the part time professional school counselor role will implement counseling sessions/plans (individual and group as needed), assist in lesson and student event planning, and other duties as assigned by the school principal.  

 

III. Job Responsibilities:

 
  1.  Assist students to achieve their potential and make improvements based collaborative designed plans for student academic and socioemotional growth.

  2. Provide support to students who are underachieving academically, chronically absent, and/or who are experiencing social or emotional concerns related to behavior, anxiety, or other wellness factors.  

  3. Maintain logs of counseling services and parental contact provided.

  4. Serve as a resource to the professional school counselors, teaching staff, and administration in areas of peer conflict resolution, crisis management, and/or coping skill development in students.  

  5. Advocate for student support alongside district counselors, nurses, and CST to ensure outside referral services or district programs are targeted to students in need.

  6. Provide assistance to school climate, safety, 504, I&RS, and other teams as needed.

  7. Assist elementary and high school transition activities as needed.  

  8. Conduct class lessons, grade level presentations, and/or parent workshops as requested.

  9. Provide educational and wellness resources to the school community.

  10. Provide counseling coverage in case of absences.

 

IV.  Terms of Employment:

 

Grant funded - 5.5 hours daily at the discretion of the building principal.  $45 dollars an hour.  No benefits. ARP Funding considered.  

 

V. Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with WTBOE policy.
