Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate High School or Middle School Science Teacher to join our team in a state-approved special education school. The ideal candidate will inspire curiosity, foster scientific thinking, and support students in achieving the individualized learning goals outlined in their IEPs, in alignment with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
? Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that reflect the individual learning styles and needs of each student.
? Create a supportive classroom environment that promotes active learning and positive behavior.
? Encourage enthusiasm for science and help students build strong study and critical-thinking skills.
? Regularly assess student progress using a variety of methods, including tests, work samples, and mastery checklists.
? Provide timely progress reports, report cards, and other required documentation.
? Collaborate in the ongoing development and revision of the school’s science curriculum.
? Supervise and guide teacher assistants as appropriate to support instructional goals.
Professional Responsibilities
? Uphold and enforce school policies and administrative procedures.
? Maintain professional work habits, including punctuality, organization, and effective use of planning time.
? Collaborate with parents and guardians to strengthen each student’s educational experience.
? Participate in professional development opportunities such as workshops, seminars, and courses to enhance instructional skills.
? Maintain confidentiality in accordance with professional ethics and state and federal laws.
? Attend staff and committee meetings and contribute to the school’s collaborative culture.
Required Qualifications
? New Jersey Certification:
? For High School - NJ HS Science Certification (Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics). Preference will be given to candidates who also have a Teacher of Students with Disabilities/Teacher of the Handicapped
? For Middle School - NJ Middle School Science or STEM Certification. Preference will be given to candidates who also have a Teacher of Students with Disabilities/Teacher of the Handicapped
? Teaching experience, preferably in special education settings.
? Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and the implementation of IEP goals.
? Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
