Description

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Director of Special Services, the Special Education Teacher supports middle school students with disabilities by providing individualized instruction, implementing district-approved curriculum and ensuring access to a high-quality educational experience. The role focuses on meeting students’ academic, behavioral, social-emotional and functional needs while fostering independence, growth and inclusion in the least restrictive environment. This position requires close collaboration with staff, families and related service providers to support student success.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assess students’ needs using formal and informal evaluation tools to identify learning strengths, areas of need and appropriate instructional strategies.
  2. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the IEP team.
  3. Deliver differentiated instruction in small group, individual and inclusive classroom settings aligned with student IEP goals.
  4. Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive behavior strategies.
  5. Monitor students’ progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data and student performance.
  6. Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers and support staff to ensure appropriate accommodation and modifications.
  7. Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to instructional planning and decision-making.
  8. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress monitoring, reports and compliance records.
  9. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, needs and school-based support.
  10. Coordinate, as appropriate, with outside agencies and service providers to support student development.
  11. Select, adapt, and maintain instructional materials and assistive tools to support diverse learning needs.
  12. Maintain an organized, structured, and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.

Additional Duties

  1. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of Special Services, or central office administration.
  2. Support school-wide initiatives and contribute to a positive, collaborative school culture.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Strong knowledge of special education laws, principles, methodologies and instructional best practices.
  2. Ability to differentiate instruction based on individual learning needs and data- driven decision making.
  3. Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and compliance requirements.
  4. Familiarity with behavior management strategies and positive behavioral supports.
  5. Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly.
  6. Proficiency with educational technology and data management systems.
  7. Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  8. Excellent communication skills with students, families and colleagues
  9. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based educational environment.
  10. Commitment to professional growth and reflective practice.
Salary60,102.00 - 113,610.00 Annual
