We are seeking an inspiring, dynamic, and fluent Grades 7-12 French Teacher to lead our secondary world language program, fostering both linguistic proficiency and global citizenship.

Position Overview

As the French Teacher for grades 7-12, you will guide middle and high school scholars from their very first introduction to the French language through advanced conversation and literary analysis. You will design a proficiency-based program that emphasizes communication, cultural appreciation, and real-world connection, preparing students for success in higher education and a global workforce.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Curriculum: Design and deliver engaging, rigorous French lessons aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for World Languages (NJSLS-WL) and ACTFL proficiency guidelines.

  • Target Language Immersion: Conduct class primarily in French, employing high-leverage teaching practices (comprehensible input, total physical response, and contextualized grammar) to build student confidence and fluency.

  • Secondary Differentiated Learning: Adapt instruction to meet the distinct developmental stages of middle schoolers (grades 7-8) and high schoolers (grades 9-12), utilizing project-based learning, authentic media, and technology.

  • Cultural Competency: Infuse the diverse history, literature, art, and current events of the Francophone world (including Europe, Africa, Canada, and the Caribbean) into daily instruction.

  • Assessment & Growth: Use formative and summative assessments to track language acquisition and prepare upperclassmen for advanced tracks or potential Seal of Biliteracy achievement.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required (French Language, Literature, or Secondary Education preferred).

  • NJ Certification: Must hold or be eligible for a valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate:

    • Teacher of French (Endorsement Code: 2510)

  • Language Proficiency: Near-native or native fluency in spoken and written French is required.

  • Background Clearance: Must pass all New Jersey Department of Education background checks, including criminal history review (fingerprinting) and the Chapter 5 Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure.
