Job Title: Superintendent of Schools – Neptune Township School District (New Jersey) (Anticipated Vacancy)

The Neptune Township Schools Board of Education invites applications from highly qualified, forward-thinking educational leaders for the position of Superintendent of Schools. The Board seeks a visionary executive with a strong record of advancing equitable student outcomes, fostering organizational excellence, and strengthening community partnerships.

District Overview
The Neptune Township School District is a comprehensive PK–12 public school system serving approximately 3,500 students across seven schools (five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school). With a dedicated staff of approximately 600 employees and an annual budget of $94 million, the district is committed to continuous improvement in student achievement and maintains an active, engaged partnership with families and the broader community. The district proudly serves a diverse student population and values inclusive practices that honor and support students from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Anticipated Start Date: On or about November 1, 2026

Compensation & Contract

The Board anticipates offering a salary in the range of $200,000 to $250,000 (pending negotiations), commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Paid sick leave, vacation days, and personal days 
  • Professional membership dues 

The initial appointment will be for a multi-year contract, as authorized by New Jersey statute.

Position Summary: The Superintendent serves as the chief executive and educational leader of the district, responsible for implementing Board policy, overseeing all district operations, and ensuring high levels of student achievement. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, transparency, and the ability to lead a diverse organization in a collaborative and student-centered manner.

Qualifications:

  • Valid New Jersey School Administrator Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility (CE) required 
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of administrative experience required 
  • Experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent preferred
  • Building-level leadership experience (e.g., Principal) preferred 
  • Prior classroom teaching experience required 
  • Earned doctorate preferred 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of New Jersey school funding regulations and state accountability requirements (including those applicable to historically under-resourced districts) required
  • Technology Skills: Ability to be proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position

Key Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Provide strategic leadership to improve academic achievement and ensure equitable outcomes for all students 
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a clear district vision aligned with Board goals and community expectations 
  • Oversee fiscal management, including budget development, resource allocation, and long-term financial planning 
  • Ensure compliance with all New Jersey statutes, administrative codes, and regulatory requirements 
  • Lead, support, and evaluate district administrators and staff to promote a culture of accountability and professional growth 
  • Foster a positive, inclusive school climate that supports student well-being and staff engagement 
  • Maintain open, transparent, and effective communication with the Board of Education, staff, families, and community stakeholders 
  • Strengthen and expand partnerships with parents, community organizations, and local agencies 
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and respect for diversity 
  • Demonstrate responsiveness to community needs and uphold high ethical and professional standards 
  • Effectively manage district operations, including curriculum, instruction, personnel, facilities, and safety  

Evaluation of Performance: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education policy.

Terms of Employment: 12 Month Contract.  Salary and benefits as determined by the Board of Education and any applicable and collective negotiations agreement. See above for specific salary information.
