Special Education Teacher - Multiple Disabilities
The Lopatcong Township School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education teacher to join our elementary school team. The ideal candidate will provide highly individualized instruction to students with complex learning, communication, physical, and/or medical needs. This position requires a strong commitment to inclusive practices, collaboration, and the development of functional life skills alongside academic growth.
Mandatory Qualifications:
• Valid New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) AND New Jersey Teacher of Elementary School (K–6) certification or appropriate content area certification OR Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH) certification;
• Required criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or resident alien status.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with students with multiple disabilities, including those with complex communication and medical needs.
• Knowledge of AAC systems, sensory supports, and adaptive equipment;
• Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills;
• Ability to lift, position, and assist students with physical needs as required;
• Ability to support students with mobility, feeding, and personal care needs as appropriate.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with New Jersey Student Learning Standards and student-specific goals;
• Provide differentiated, multisensory instruction in academic, social, communication, and daily living skills;
• Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and assistive technology, including AAC devices, when appropriate;
• Collaborate with related service providers (speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, behavior specialists) and CST members to support student progress;
• Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals as well as maintain accurate and timely records;
• Foster a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student independence;
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs;
• Participate in IEP meetings, team planning, and professional development opportunities;
• Implement behavior intervention plans and support positive behavioral strategies;
• Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned.
Salary: As per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement
