Description Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Five years of upper elementary or middle school language arts or ELL  teaching experience required.
  • New Jersey Department of Education Elementary K-6 Certification or English Secondary Certification.

  • New Jersey Department of Education English as a Second Language Certification

  • A thorough understanding of literacy development in school-age children, including both structured and balanced literacy practices. 
  • Understanding of and experience in implementing best practices in the second language acquisition process

  • Some knowledge of New Jersey Tiered System of Supports (NJTSS) and data analysis helpful.

  • Master’s Degree in Reading or New Jersey Department of Education Reading Specialist preferred.

  • Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory IMSLEC certificate or Teachers of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification a plus.

 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Act as a consultant for literacy intervention and ML support by serving on building-based problem-solving teams: create instructional action plans; analyze student achievement data; and review progress monitoring. 

  • Conduct / review screening and diagnostic assessments to identify at-risk students.  

  • Act as a resource for classroom teachers, by compiling and sharing instructional materials to support Tier 1 intervention.

  • Communicate and work effectively with teachers, students, administrators and parents.

  • Open to learning from and with colleagues in a collaborative environment, 

  • View professional learning as a necessity.

  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to student-centered instruction in a parent-involved community.
