Multilingual Learner (MLL)  Instructor (Grades K-8)

 

Job Summary:

This is a professional position to meet the instructional goals of the school system by delivering instructional programs to Multilingual Learners (MLL) effectively to ensure student achievement. 

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible for a New Jersey educator certificate in the appropriate area. (ESOL K-8)
  • Dual Language (bilingual) in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Criminal history background check and physical clearance 
  • Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the MLL students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the MLL students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Encourages MLL students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process for MLL students toward the achievement of curriculum goals and - in harmony with the goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of MLL students.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of the MLL students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Administer the WIDA Screener to determine eligibility and appropriate placement of English Language Learners.
  • Coordinate and administer the ACCESS for ELLs assessment annually in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Emulates the highest professional ethics and practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
