JOB TITLE: Teacher

REPORTS TO: Principal


1. Valid New Jersey teacher certification in middle/high school subject area(s).  Special Education experience preferred.

2. Bachelor’s Degree

  1. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff

  2. Knowledge of diverse needs of children with disabilities and appropriate special education classroom practices.

JOB GOAL: Guides emotionally fragile students toward gaining knowledge and skills


  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and the times designated

  2. Creates a consistent, emotionally safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of emotionally fragile students

  3. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of established Sage Day curriculum goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units, and projects

  4. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with space and resources provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved

  5. Strives by instruction and action to implement Sage Day’s philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives and performance expectations as outlined in the Policy and Procedure manual

  6. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provides progress reports as required, and communicate with parents as deemed necessary

  7. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, Sage Day policy, and administrative regulations

  8. Develops a code of conduct for the classroom which is consistent with established administrative policies and develops rules of classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner

  9. Make provisions for being available to students and parents by appointment

  10. Maintains an ongoing program for professional growth that satisfies Sage Day requirements but also satisfies personal expectations as a professional

  11. Takes an active part in the Sage Day approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement concerning the results of the evaluation

  12. Attends staff meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among the staff

  13. Serves on Sage Day committees, which develop curriculum and enhance instruction

  14. Attends established, traditional school-sponsored activities (e.g. Parents’ Night, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Arts Festival)

  15. Contributes to the decisions made by Sage Day and administrators regarding budget, curriculum, and personal well being
