TITLE: Part-time Adult Education ESL/Civics Instructor

LOCATION: Carney's Point, NJ

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Adult Literacy ESL/Civics Instructor will prepare lessons and implement instruction to adult students to in developing ESL skills, workplace readiness skills/career training, citizenship skills, and explore community engagement activities. Goals of this position are to integrate all ESL/Civics classes with College and Career Readiness Standards, increase student citizenship skills, align IET Workforce Training Initiatives, and engage students in community activities. *This is a grant-funded position.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop the basic ESL/Civics skills component of a curriculum to assist students in developing ESL skills, workplace readiness skills, career training, citizenship skills, and participate in community engagement activities.
  • Participate in regular meetings and communications with the administration in order to collaborate, align instruction, monitor students' progress and identify issues they may have while attending classes.
  • Evaluates and revises the basic ESL/Civics sills component of the curriculum to meet the needs of the students.
  • Evaluate students' progress, regularly.
  • Maintains current records on all students, including but not limited to, accurate attendance records and reports absences to the coordinator.
  • Promotes the mission of the program in a positive manner with all staff, participants and partners, with a consistent exchange of information in a transparent and collaborative environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree preferred.
  • New Jersey teaching certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of subject area and effective teaching methods.
  • Knowledge of ESL basic skills standardized assessment instruments.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with varied hours to meet programmatic needs.
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, colleagues and community partners.

HOURS: Flexible hours

RATE: Hourly rate $31.00-$38.00

LICENSE/CERTIFICATES: Teaching Certification (Preferred)
