JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:

COACH (Soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, cross country, cheerleading, tennis, and any/all other sports activities)

   

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have teacher certification with preference given to district employees. Only if a certified teacher is not available will the Board consider a person with a County Substitute Certificate.  A standard certificate or substitute certificate is required to hold a position of coach whether paid, unpaid or as a volunteer.

  1. Must have demonstrated prior successful coaching experience with school age youngsters, or necessary training and background in lieu of experience.

  1. Must possess the capability and energy necessary to carry out the responsibilities of a coach.

  1. Must have good moral character and successfully undergo the required criminal background check.

5. Implements the following team selection/tryout process and procedures designed to provide all students with an equal opportunity to make the team.


A. An impartial 5 member selection team, organized by the building principal or assistant principal, and composed of the following members: (3) volunteer teachers or other district certificated personnel, (1) the principal or assistant principal, (1) the coach.  This selection team will select the sports activity members based upon predetermined criteria established by the coach.

B. Selection criteria will be shared equally with all interested students prior to tryouts.

C. Students will be encouraged to note their skills and position preferences prior to tryouts.

D. All students trying out will be given equal and fair consideration for a position on the team by the selection panel. 


6. All coaches must complete and maintain a Red Cross certified first aid, CPR, and AED safety training program prior to the beginning of the coaching activity.

Cedar Drive Middle School Principal or Assistant Principal





DUTIES

 

Ensures that all students participating in the program have had a physical examination showing them to be in good physical condition and fit to participate.

 

  1. Follows the selection/tryout procedures that provide an equal opportunity for all students to make the team.

 

  1. Ensures that all students selected for the team are eligible to participate under the district’s Athletic and Student Activities Policies and all league policies specific to the sport coached.

 

  1. Ensures that the necessary equipment, uniforms, officials, etc. are available prior to the beginning of the season.

 

  1. Implements procedures to properly inventory and safeguard equipment, uniforms, and first aid equipment.

 

  1. Schedules all home and away games and submits the proper request forms for transportation in accordance with Board policies.

 

  1. Supervises at all times when students are practicing, playing and traveling to and from away games.

 

  1. Reports any injury promptly to the school principal and/or school nurse and  files the appropriate report.

 

  1. Collects all uniforms and equipment at the conclusion of the season and certifies same to the school principal.

 

  1. Supervises any paraprofessional athletic aide (paid or unpaid) approved to assist in the athletic activity.

 

  1. Any and all other duties as may be assigned by the administration related to this activity.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary to be determined by the Board of Education.
