Description Job Title – Director of Food Services

Reports to: School Business Administrator

Job Purpose:  To manage the food service department as a self-supporting entity within the school district.

Qualifications - Required
Minimum 2 years of relevant school nutrition programs experience
Knowledge and ability to perform culinary duties in a professional kitchen setting
Experience supervising a multi – unit food service operation
Experience supervising and scheduling staff
Thorough knowledge of food, labor, fixed and variable costs
Able to speak English clearly and accurately
Excellent communication skills, oral and written
Excellent presentation and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Able to use relevant technology
Valid New Jersey Drivers License
Able to pass the Criminal History Review
Able to pass the Sexual Misconduct Child Abuse Disclosure
Able to Pass Pre-Employment Physical Exam

Qualifications – Desired
Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree with academic major in the hospitality field
Thorough knowledge of the Healthy Hunger Free-Kids Act of 2010
Member of the School Nutrition Association
Able to converse in multiple languages
 
Duties/Responsibilities
Develops and administers the requirements governing the school lunch pattern meal(s)
Formulates menus, develops recipes, presents and distributes monthly menus to the district community and district webmaster
Evaluates nutrition content in accordance with USDA guidelines
Recruits, trains, and supervises all food service staff and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion and release
Maintains safety, health and sanitation practices in compliance with local, state and federal laws as well as insurance regulations
Maintains all district food service equipment
Procures goods and services
Obtains quotations for purchases and approves said purchases within the allotted budget
Maintains proper inventory levels
Submission of appropriate reports to the state offices as required within the mandated time schedule
Reviews and approves monthly reimbursement reports
Accept and approve all free and reduced applications in accordance with the USDA requirements
Manage all records and conduct application verifications as required by federal law
Preparation of the annual food service budget
Review and approve employee timesheets
Develops and administers procedures for receiving, storing and distributing food and supplies
Partners with school principals to assist with building needs
Acts as a liaison with students, parents and staff for special requests
Consults as needed, with school planners and architects on plans and specifications for new or renovated food preparation areas
Continue with and participate in the Garden State Cooperative
Utilization of technology including but not limited to Mosaic POS software, online ordering, student data systems, Google Docs/Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
Handles other duties such as participating in audits, and conducting long range planning
Attends appropriate administrative and staff meetings
Upholds and enforces board policy, administrative regulations, and school codes
All other duties as assigned by the School Business Administrator or designee
