Description of Company: Since 1891, St. Joseph’s School for the Blind has been providing specialized services to individuals with visual impairments across New Jersey. Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, the School is comprised of several programs, such as: Early Intervention, In-district Support Services, and School for the Blind, and Adult Services. As a non-sectarian organization, they are proud to serve individuals of all races, creeds and national origins.

Qualifications:

  • NJDOE Professional Certificate with an endorsement as Principal.
  • Hold a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Have at least five (5) years excellent administrative experience as a Principal, Assistant Principal or Central Office Administrator and a minimum of seven (5) years of excellent experience in teaching and working with children with special needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the School.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of appropriate curriculum.
  • Assigns, supervises and coordinates the work of the staff assigned to the education program, including teachers, teaching assistants, specialists and the Supervisor.
  • Participates in writing of Individual Education Plans; attends IEP meetings and student staffings, as needed.
  • Provide all services available by law to assure that the students receive an appropriate education as outlined in their IEP.
  • Selects and recommends employment of all educational personnel.
  • Recommends, according to established procedures the removal of staff whose work is unsatisfactory.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs implementation of all School activities in accordance with philosophy and goals of the School.   
  • Makes recommendations concerning the School’s administration and instruction.
  • Provides annual written evaluations, as required by state regulations, for teachers, specialists, teacher assistants, support staff and Supervisor.
  • Advises staff and provides various resources for staff performance, development and improvement.
  • Assures that parents/guardians and family members are a part of the educational process and are kept informed of their child’s progress.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of education and related reports, records, lists and all other paperwork required as appropriate to the School’s administration.

 Salary commensurate with credentials and experience. Compensation package includes: Health and dental benefits covered at 100% for individual, optional vision, 403b plan (2% of salary contributed), free $10k life insurance policy, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days and 11 paid holidays
