Harbor Haven is a 7-week summer day camp program for children with mild special needs. Camp dates are June 28-August 13 with staff training taking place prior to camp opening. Training times may be able to work around your teaching schedule. Please make sure you are available for the entirety of the camp season before applying.
Essential Job Functions: Teachers/Specialists develop, plan and lead activities in their specialty area. Available specialty areas include:
- Learning Center (must be a certified special education teacher)
- Social Skills (must be a psychologist, social worker or mental health counselor)
- Pool Head (Must be 21+ with LGT certification. WSI certification is a plus. We can provide LGT/WSI training for interested individuals)
- Athletics and Bike Riding
- Nature and STEM
- Arts and Crafts
- Martial Arts
*Please note that specialists may be asked to lead multiple specialty areas, so experience and comfort in multiple areas is preferred.
Qualifications: Individuals hired for these positions must have the ability to interact/relate with various age and ability levels with a diverese population in a positive manner; have an understanding of developmental needs of youth; must be able to attend staff training; must submit self-completed health form prior to start date; must provide three professional, educational or employment references.
Physical/Other Aspects of the Job: Great communication skills with campers and staff; apply appropriate behavior-management techniques; exhibit kindness, patience and compassion. We are committed to providing our campers a safe, happy, healthy, fun-filled summer where growth and improvement of important skills takes place. We are located on an 8 acre private school campus. Many activities take place outside which requires staff to be comfortable outdoors in the summer.
