PURPOSE: This position is a highly visible one. Ideal candidates will embody, advocate, and operationalize New Horizons Community Charter School’s mission and vision statements. The Technology Director is responsible for continuous operation of the school’s technology, including troubleshooting, inventory, and minor maintenance. The Technology Director implements, coordinates, and evaluates the integration of educational technology as tools to support instruction. This candidate must demonstrate the ability to promote educational technology through classroom instruction and faculty/staff professional development.
REPORTS TO: School Principal
- Masters Degree required in Technology Education or Educational Administration/
- New Jersey Principal certificate; Standard or Certificate of Eligibility
- Minimum of four (4) years successful experience in teaching Instructional Technology
- Knowledge of New Jersey Student Leaning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods.
- Ability to create a District-level professional development program.

- Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4
- Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities, with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3- 4A.4.
- Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education. During the initial six-month period provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.
- Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collect and review an inventory of technology equipment and materials.
- Disseminate technology related information throughout the district via news bulletins, electronic mail, electronic bulletin boards, presentations at state, district and building level meetings, etc.
- Assume the duty of New Horizons Community Charter School Webmaster:
- Manage school website site.
- Adapt existing content to a Web-friendly format.
- Train and help school-based webmasters.
- Create internet content.
- Provide training and support of instructional staff in the use of technology for their professional and classroom use. (Workshops, telephone support, classroom visitations, walk in support, etc.).
- Installation and support of software and equipment related to technology.
- Implement current successful uses of technology in the classroom.
- Oversee technology oriented open houses for parents, with students and teachers demonstrating various uses of technologies in the classroom.
- Recommend purchase of software and hardware that is used in the classrooms and labs in the school district.
- Plan, teach, and publishing of technology workshops and recording of teacher participation in such workshops.
- Motivate classroom teachers to utilize technology in the classroom.
- Participation in Technology Conferences
- Coordinate the use of technology by teachers, administrators, support staff and students to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services.
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of technology integration.
- Assist faculty and staff in dealing with minor technical issues in order to maintain a positive attitude among educators about use of technologies and avoid frustrations and fear of technologies by those teachers unfamiliar with them.
- Ensure that the steady stream of new information in the form of text and graphics from the schools is published to the website.
- Develop a long-range district technology plan for the use of present and emerging technology designed to improve the teaching/learning process.
- Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff and use discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
- Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, construction codes, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
- Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
- Manage School E-Rate Account
- Make recommendations for program development and implementation.
- Researches and informs with regard to trends in education and the application of instructional technology in the teaching and learning process.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director of Research, Evaluation and Testing to develop effective student information systems to track, monitor and assess student achievement data.
- Meets with school administrators, District support staff and teachers to determine learning or teaching functions which may be enhanced, supplemented or optimized by the use of current or emerging information technology systems.
- Reviews, evaluates and makes recommendations for the procurement of computer hardware and software for classrooms and computer labs.
- Identifies training and staff development needs and develops a district-wide program for use of computer science.
- Coordinates with vendors and Information Services staff to provide ongoing educational technology training and development classes and workshops.
- Supports instructional technology that aligns to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 12-month full-time position that is annually renewable in accordance with New Horizons Community Charter School approved policies and procedures.
COMPENSATION: Salary as established and agreed upon between the New Horizons Employee Association and New Horizons Community Charter School Board of trustees.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the School Principal in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy.
