Director of Information Technology

Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School, located in Jersey City, NJ, seeks an experienced full-time Director of Information Technology to supervise the school’s IT Department, including all internal employees, vendors, and consultants. We seek a professional who is confident in their capacity to work in a diverse and dynamic school community to engage and conduct themselves as a positive role model and possess effective communication skills with parents and stakeholders. The candidate should have experience in IT project management, a solid technical background, and good organizational, teambuilding, and analytical abilities. The candidate should also be willing to learn new technologies and skills.

Major Job Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the school CEO, your duties will also include technical and administrative tasks to ensure the functionality and efficiency of the school’s computer and telecom systems. Install and configure software and hardware, including printers and network cards. Develop protocols for the use of IT across projects and school-wide. Support and train personnel responsible for systems and networks, provide advice on the most suitable IT choices and provide leadership and vision around educational technology and technology integration for/with instruction.

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to the entire school and solve routine issues promptly.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issue that may arise.
  • Monitor system and network performance and organize maintenance activities (e.g., backups).
  • Organize troubleshooting, repairs, and data restoration.
  • Maintain all technical licenses and upgrade schedules.
  • Assist computer teacher in evaluating all software and hardware used within the school.
  • Assume the lead and participate in all aspects of planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining new or enhanced systems.
  • Source, procure, and coordinate the delivery of IT peripherals and non-standard software.
  • Oversee the maintenance process and perform all the required maintenance activities.
  • Ensure DLEACS IT system operation and users adhere to applicable laws and regulations, including all FERPA requirements.

Performance criteria:

  • Maintain the DLEACS Wi-Fi network and be responsible for the network running optimally to support student instruction.
  • Check computers/chrome books to ensure optimum performance for student/teacher use.
  • Ensure all media rooms (Projector, Sound, PC performance) work at optimum conditions for teachers and assist teachers with any IT issues.
  • Ensure all network printers are functioning correctly. Also, you must be able to call technical support and troubleshoot over the phone if necessary.
  • Respond to ticket, email, and telephone support requests promptly.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all IT equipment.
  • Assist with all new hardware and software setups (ensure enough ports are available and configured correctly)
  • Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, including local government, vendors, and partner organizations
  • Establish lines of control for current and proposed information systems
  • Maintain the DLEACS Wi-Fi network and be responsible for the network running optimally to support student instruction.
  • Assist students with Wi-Fi connectivity issues on their laptop or iPad devices.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the school’s three-year tech plan.
  • Evaluate new technologies.

Reporting directly to the School CEO

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to pass an NJDOE criminal background check
  • Previous experience working in IT or similar background preferred
  • Self–starter able to work independently and collaboratively to solve problems.
  • Broad experience with Mac IOS, Windows, and Google environments
  • Knowledge of DNS and essential TCP/IP troubleshooting tools
  • Working knowledge of a current Student Information System, preferably Genesis and the NJ SMART reporting system, and Data Analytics Platforms is preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month employee.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,000.00 - $74,000.00 per year
