Job description
To oversee the custodial operations of individual school facilities and ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable school environment; to carry out administrative tasks required to maintain and operate the school facilities to the required standards.
Full-Time, 12-Month Position: Approximate Start Date: July 1, 2025
District Description: Pre-K to Grade 6 district consisting of one campus with three buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid NJ Driver’s License
- Valid NJ certificate as C.E.F.M. (Certified Educational Facilities Manager) is preferred. (The Board may initially waive this requirement; however, the person must achieve his or her certification within 2 years of employment)
- Black Seal License; high school diploma or equivalent training
- Minimum experience in plant operation and maintenance; cleaning methods and procedures; repairs; security; heating and ventilation as determined by the board.
- Supervisory ability
- Demonstrated knowledge of fire/ safety laws and proper handling of hazardous materials
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the school each day.
- Schedules daily tasks, supervises work of custodians and participates in daily cleaning of facilities.
- Monitors and regulates heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical use of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Responsible for all year-round grounds-keeping, maintenance and repair work in the building.
- Participates in the selection, assignment, scheduling and training of the custodial staff.
- Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of supplies, tools, equipment, and fuel.
- Monitors the time records of all custodians in the school and certifies them for salary payment.
- Provides administration with written recommendations on the performance of custodians in accordance with board policy.
- Completes custodial reports, building condition reports and other records as required.
- Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
- Ensures that all fire/ safety and environmental laws and regulations relating to the school district buildings and grounds operations are enforced.
- Maintains preventative maintenance logs and other records as required.
- Performs related duties as required for daily operation of the school.
- Performs other related duties as directed by the building Administration.

All custodians under his/her authority
