ROLE OVERVIEW

The Assistant Superintendent, Teaching & Learning supports the District Superintendent in achieving the educational goals and objectives of the Camden City Public Schools by inspiring, leading, guiding, and directing the instructional staff in setting and achieving the highest standards of academic excellence for each student. The Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning, will be charged with leading the execution of CCSD’s strategic priorities to drive student and family outcomes districtwide. The Assistant Superintendent will work with a team to optimize the District’s model to deliver college and career results at scale; designing and implementing professional development programs through research-driven coaching models for school leaders and leading District-wide change management initiatives. The Assistant Superintendent must be able and ready to work alongside and partner with the Superintendent’s Executive Leadership Team towards courageous change management efforts.

The Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning, will oversee the following functional areas (vertical):

  • Adult Management, Coaching and Development
  • College and Career Access Development, Design and Implementation
  • Student Supports and Services
  • Special Services

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold a valid New Jersey Administrative Certificate in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 18A:27-1 et seq., and N.J.A.C. Title 6 Chapter 11, with a School Administrator endorsement (N.J.A.C 6:11-9.3 and 9.5). 2.
  • Masters Degree from an accredited college/university
  • At least 3-5 years as a building based principal and/or prior experience coaching and leading building based leadership teams
  • At least three (3) years of experience successfully managing large teams of adults towards achieving ambitious outcomes
  • At least three (3) years of central administration experience in an urban setting, preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in the areas of personnel management, school administration and supervision of instructional programs and administrative staff
  • Strong leadership, oral and written communication skills
  • A valid driver’s license as well as current insurance and vehicle with valid registration
  • Required criminal history background check, physical, and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Major responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Adult Management, Coaching and Development

  • Manage the Teaching and Learning Officers towards successfully managing, coaching and developing a portfolio of school leaders
  • Partners with executive peers as the adult learning expert and lead to support the growth of staff across the division towards transformational change and initiatives
  • Partner with Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum & Instruction to oversee professional development opportunities across all instructional staff and ensure such opportunities are available and provided to meet both the developmental needs of the staff and the academic needs of the students; ensuring the district’s priorities are aligned
  • Work collaboratively with Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum & Instruction to ensure all adult learning and programming are well integrated
  • Through direct management of principal coaches
  • Design, develop and implement a leadership based coaching model that is driven by research and best practices that will drive and improve school leader effectiveness and increase student academic outcomes
  • Assist school leadership teams in creating collaborative learning environments and climates for students, staff, and stakeholders
  • Assisting school leadership in analyzing and interpreting student data, performance metrics, and teacher and administrator observation and evaluation data to improve leadership and teacher practices

College and Career Access Development, Design and Implementation

  • Through direct management of the Senior Manager of Grants, College Career Access and CTE
  • Oversee the vision, direction and accreditation process for college and career pathways that ensures students have options to select that ensures students have concrete opportunities after graduating from district schools
  • Create and oversee specific initiatives geared at middle school students that introduce and prepare them for clear paths toward college and career
  • Oversee the relationships and initiatives with external partners, both local and national, that will drive and enhance college and career pathways for district students; including for profit and non-profit businesses, higher educational institutions and hospitals
  • Through direct management of the Senior Director of Athletic Programming
  • Oversee the successful implementation of all interscholastic athletics programming from 6th grade towards 12th grade
  • Design a pathway for athletic programming beginning in Kindergarten to 12th grade

Student Supports and Services

  • Through direct management of the Senior Director of Student Supports
  • Oversee the successful managing, implementation and framework on the District’s priorities of supporting the whole child from K-12

Special Services

  • Through direct management of the Chief School Support Officer, Special Services
  • Oversee the successfully managing, implementation and framework that ensures all students, regardless of ability can learn and excel

Salary Range:

  • Competitive based on qualifications and previous experience
