Job Description:
TITLE Occupational Therapist
Pay: $61,374.00 - $82,907.00 per year
QUALIFICATIONS: Occupational therapy services are provided by a professional holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited school. The therapist should be registered with the American Occupational Therapy Association and should possess a school Occupational Therapy Certification.
1. A Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) is:
a. A graduate of an occupational therapy curriculum accredited jointly by the Council on Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
b. Eligible for registration by AOTA
2. A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is:
a. Eligible for or possesses certification as a certified occupational therapy assistant from the American Occupational Therapy Association, and works under the direct supervision of an OTR
3. Required Criminal History background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal alien status
REPORTS TO: Designated Supervisor
JOB GOALS: Occupational Therapy is a related service in which the therapist utilizes medically based training to evaluate and apply purposeful, goal directed, developmentally sequenced activities to enhance the student’s potential for learning.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as a resource and consultant to teacher and school staff members in the area of motor development, sensory integration and independent living skills
2. Provides diagnostic services in the areas of sensory motor performances for those children referred through the Child Study Team
3. Provides a therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of the student
4. Screens students to determine level of performance
5. Provides small group and/or individual therapy as indicated
6. Provides consultation through classroom teacher for remediation specific problems, which affect academic performance
7. Provides consultation to classroom teachers on a regular basis i.e., once a month to discuss general and/or specific motor related problems
8. Provides a therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of any student deemed eligible for services through the diagnostic process
9. Assumes full responsibility for determination of appropriate amount, nature and model of service delivery
10.Provides information, support and counseling services to families when appropriate
11.Assist with planning and implementing staff development / in-service education programs
12.Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement techniques, which will enhance a child’s performance in the classroom
13.Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual students who receive occupational therapy
14.Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining inventory for equipment and supplies, including adapted equipment
15.Performs other duties within the scope of employment as assigned by the Director of Special Services or his/her designee
