ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY TEACHER- Career and Technical High School

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  • Valid NJ Vocational Instructor Certificate or
  • Applicants for a CTE certificate of eligibility using an associate's degree must meet all of the following requirements:

 

      1. The applicant must submit an official transcript for an associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.  The transcript must:
        1. Demonstrate that the applicant completed a college degree in the occupational field of the title for which the applicant is applying; and,
        2. Demonstrate that the applicant meets the required GPA pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-8.2.  For students graduating before September 1, 2016, the cumulative GPA must be at least 2.75 when a GPA of 4.00 equals an A grade.  For students graduating on or after September 1, 2016, achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 when a GPA of 4.00 equals an A grade.
      2. The applicant must pass an examination in physiology and hygiene, including the effects of narcotics and alcohol.  The examination is administered at the county offices of education.  In lieu of this examination, the applicant may present basic military training or college level study in areas such as biology, health or nutrition.  To locate a county office of education, visit the following link: http://www.state.nj.us/education/counties/
      3. The applicant must complete the 24-Hour Requirement. Eligibility requires applicants to demonstrate knowledge of basic pedagogical skills appropriate to the area of endorsement prior to the issuance of a certificate.  The requirement may be met through successful completion of a minimum of 24 hours of study offered through a state-approved provider or through approved coursework at a NJ State-approved college as documented on a transcript. (Exceptions:  Holders of a CEAS, provisional, or standard certificate in another instructional area are exempt from this requirement.)
      4. The applicant must submit evidence of at least two years of employment experience (approximately 4,000 hours) in the occupational field of the title.  The employment experience must:
        1. Have occurred within 10 years of the CTE certificate application date; and

  • Applicants for a CTE certificate using employment experience must meet all of the following requirements:

 

      1. The applicant must submit evidence of at least four years of employment experience (approximately 8,000 hours) in the occupational field of the title.  The employment experience must:
        1. Have occurred within 10 years of the CTE certificate application date; and

      2.   • Applicants for a CTE certificate of eligibility using employment experience must meet the following requirements:

 

    1. The applicant must submit evidence of at least four years of self-employment experience (approximately 8,000 hours) in the occupational field of the title.  The self-employment experience must be documented with an official, notarized letter from a tax preparer and/or an attorney verifying the following:
      1. The experience occurred within 10 years of the CTE certificate application date.
      2. That the candidate has filed state and/or federal taxes for the self-employment using a federal U.S. Census North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code in the occupational field of the title.  For a link to the U.S. NAICS code list, go to the following link:  http://www.census.gov/epcd/naics02/
    2.     3. The applicant must complete the 24-Hour Requirement. Specific skills related to proficient use of technology systems, computers and electronic communication devices and the ability to develop, implement, modify and assess student vocational progress. Continued need to attend training and participate in professional development in order to update knowledge related to the implementation of vocational assessments and the development of classroom instruction and laboratory or on-the-job experiences necessary to prepare students for employment or advanced education.

 

Ability is required to independently problem-solve, schedule daily activities, model good communication and to communicate and work effectively with professional staff and parents. Ability is required to monitor student vocational performance and behaviors across setting and to physically position and manipulate students as necessary.

Responsibilities include: completing IEP updates within specified timeframes, working collaboratively with team members, parents, and administration, managing time and schedule efficiently, visiting and developing off site job placements, planning and implementing appropriate lesson plans, managing classroom aides and scheduling appropriate activities, using specialized equipment effectively, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines and schedules and making data-driven decisions for meaningful educational activities.

 

Job Goals: Under the direction of the school principal, the Vocational Teacher is directly responsible for designing a comprehensive vocational assessment plan for each student referred in accordance with SCVTS & SCSSSD policies and procedures. The Vocational Teacher provides evaluation designs for situational vocational assessments within the school workshop and community environments and coordinates educational and supportive services necessary to implement each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) with integrity and provide an appropriate transition program.

Performance Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Actively participate in the development of student Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), including Transition Plans, according to program guidelines for the purpose of providing a free, appropriate public education.
  2. Design a comprehensive vocational assessment plan for each student to appropriately determine transition plan outcomes for the purpose of insuring students understand and are aware of the relationship between school and work.
  3. Compile and maintain necessary records,IEPs,and reports for the purpose of maintaining accurate student records.
  4. Develop IEP goals and benchmarks based on the vocational assessments related to student interest in career or work for the purpose of setting appropriate student goals based on present levels of performance.
  5. Develop and provide evaluation designs for situational vocational assessments within the workshop, in school and community environments for the purpose of providing students with the necessary experiences to prepare students for employment.
  6. Develop a vocational profile showing current strengths and weaknesses as related to general job skills and work habits for the purpose of assuring all students attain appropriate levels of achievement in areas fundamental to their continuing development.
  7. Maintain appropriate student behavior control and participate in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans with integrity when appropriate for the purpose of classroom management and providing a safe, learning environment for all students.
  8. Maintain effective communication with students,staff,parents,and administration for the purpose of collaboration and planning.
  9. Participate in team meetings and IEP meetings to address student needs for the purpose of developing an appropriate Transition Plan.
  10. Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including recertification for CPI, workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings at NSSEO for the purpose of increasing knowledge and ability to implement interventions with integrity and incorporate best practices.
  11. Participate in building or program activities/committees and meetings as appropriate for the purpose of team building and adherence to SCVTS & SCSSSD policies and procedures.
  12. Plan and conduct parent conferences for each student as necessary for the purpose of communicating to parents about student vocational evaluation results and progress towards transition plans.
  13. Plan and supervise the functions of all job coaches assigned to work sites or workshops for the purpose of effectively meeting student goals.
  14. Prepare a specific work plan to assist special education and vocational staff in the development of specific activities to address areas of weakness identified by the vocational evaluation for the purpose of students meeting goals/benchmarks developed in transition planning.
  15. Proficiently use technology to communicate, collect and analyze data, and compile reports for the purpose of efficiently reporting information and communicating in a timely manner.
  16. Provide input to administration on aides/assistants professional goals and evaluation as appropriate for the purpose of evaluating support staff and setting goals.
  17. Use data-driven decision making to monitor student performance and make vocational decisions as appropriate for the purpose of implementing effective interventions to facilitate student progress.
  18. Utilize research-based, best practices interventions, programs, and strategies to implement SCVTS & SCSSSD curriculum for the purpose of providing an appropriate educational program for students.
  19. Travel to and develop SCVTS & SCSSSD on-the-job work placements or sheltered work sites for the purpose of providing additional employment opportunities, supervising job coaches and evaluating student progress.
